How much would it cost to put a window seat with storage in a bay window? Looking online it seems thousands 😬 anyone done this recently? Thanks

They sound like a great idea, and I'd love to have one here. But in this 100-yr-old house I suspect I won't be able to, because I know it could cause a problem with damp- a previous owner had a fitted bookcase round it and that made the wallpaper behind it damp. I'm planning to strip that area back to plaster, and quite possibly the basic brick, which may mean I can solve the problem (some moron at some point plastered with gypsum over one of the layers of wallpaper so all that has to come off back to the lime plaster- if that's still in one piece) . In a new house, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Cannot tell you a cost, very much depends on the shills of your local tradesman. But I had them in a previous house - never used them, they were cold and lacked comfort. May I suggest you look at moveable benches which can sit inside the window bay, but have some flexibility ?

I'm confused. Are you wanting a bay window built or do you already have a bay window and you're wanting a bit of boxing built in to make a seat? Is it actually going to be used as a seat (in which case it needs to be able to bear the weight of an large adult or two) or is it just going to be used as a cupboard with the "seat" for decorative purposes. Either way, a carpenter should be able to put something together for you. The latter will be cheaper as it can be largely done with mdf with proper wood for the outward facing bits. If it's going to actually be used to sit on, it's going to have to be more solid. If it's going to be a seat with cupboards under, it's going to be even more expensive (although potentially worth it if storage is an issue) as you can't just build it as a solid block.

@spiderontheceiling thanks for your reply. We have a bay window and would want a functional window seat with storage.

It cost me 2k for windowseat & shelves around my box window. Don’t forget upholstery. If you actually want to be comfy you will be spending a lot more - our seat cushions & cover came up to £300.

We have a bay window and I wanted a window seat in it, in the end I realised that it wouldnt be very comfortable so we got a sofa that just fits in it, takes up the whole space and with narrow arms so not those splayed out arms, this means the vast majority of the space is the seat of the sofa, plenty of room

There is some room under the sofa for some nice looking boxes but not very big. We just use storage boxes (nice ones, painted wood) in the rest of the room for side tables, looking around the room now we have 5 boxes/side cabinets so that there is plenty of storage and somewhere to put a cup of tea at the side of the sofa (cannot stand coffee tables that sit in the middle of the room, very inconvenient)

We paid £1500 in 2016. The bay window is the size of a single bed. We've got storage underneath which you lift up. We bought memory foam which we had cut to size (approx £100) and my Mil made the cushion for it with the same fabric as our sofa from laura ashley:
