Cost of removing chimney to below roofline

Have a problem with water ingress which shows in my chimney breast. Has been going on for 2 years and had 4 different roofers involved (if you count my dad) and paid out over £2 grand. Has improved but not solved the problem and now after all this rain there is an unmistakenable vertical line of damp about 2 inches wide which cannot possibly be condensation. So I am interested in removing chimney below roof line as I don't use it- I think this would make the house warmer too. But I know the costs on google aren't reliable. So has anyone done this and can give me a rough idea of costs? Am Southeast but very cheap town. Thanks

Depends where about in the country you are. I'm based in the West Midlands and we are currently having our chimney breast removed the Initial cost is £1700 including the bracket that's required. We've had another unexpected cost of £200 once our builder started to knock through the chimney he's discovered that whoever built the house did a crap job of it and he is now rebuilding the wall properly.

We’re about to have this done, chimney removed below the roofline and roof repaired - £1200
worcestershire. Builder is dhs friend but I don’t think it’s ‘mates rates’ but it is in addition to a bigger job so maybe that’s kept the cost down a bit

We had this issue a decade ago and had the chimney removed- it solved the problem and cost 500. But it was years ago so cost not helpful- but it did solve the problem

Depends on how big the chimney is and where abouts on the roof it is ? But I’d think 2 people 2 days Skip and a few materials……..

ours cost about £1800 - including cost of scaffolding, a skip and essentially labour. Only materials involved were some more roof tiles and something to cap the internal chimney top off.

Don’t get a cheap job, a friend’s neighbour had some cowboys do it and the support for the chimney wasn’t put in despite the breast being taken out and a collapse occurred. Insurance didn’t cover it as it was a change they hadn’t notified to insurance company

OK thanks but I am hoping to get a particular roofer who is highly recommended this time. also only want it capped below roofline not taking out chimney breasts within the house. This will be my fourth roofer so hoping to nail it this time!
