Oxford - village feel - where to move?

After recommendations for Oxford for my brother.

Work is in Oxford, previously lived in Thame so knows area quite well. However, happier to move further out for his budge which is £350k.

Would like an older property/character/village/church.

All i'm finding on Rightmove are new builds or 70'shouses!

Where should I focus my search?

Haddenham ? Or older parts of Bicester ? Not sure about character property for that budget though

Bicester is the wrong side of Oxford for travelling to Windsor surely?

mistlethrush · 12/11/2022 22:27

Hagbourne and North / South Moreton both within cycling distance to Didcot station so very straightforward commute if work is accessible to Oxford station. Blewbury and Upton a bit further out - Upton is on a cycle route...

Crikeyalmighty · 12/11/2022 23:27

@PrincessofWellies whilst I agree-the oP said further down its a WFH job with a pop on about once every 10 days and us more than happy to travel for an hour- - hence why I posted the nice house in Shipton on Cherwell

PrincessofWellies · 12/11/2022 23:37

Yes I was thinking about the traffic, not sure what it's like that side . . .

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 13/11/2022 06:41

Anyone who thinks that it takes an hour to drive from Oxford to Windsor in the rush hour needs their bumps feeling!
I had a job in Windsor town centre whilst living in west Reading. That journey frequently took 2 hours on a bad day along the M4 and then the Windsor relief road.
I vowed never to travel east through Berkshire to work ever again!

PedantScorner · 13/11/2022 10:37

If your post was aimed at me@FormerlySpeckledyHen , I have done the commute and could easily get from Oxford to Slough, but it was on the train.

CoastalWave · 13/11/2022 14:39

To those who keep asking..

He's barely in the office. Currently he is 4 hours away!

So 1.5hrs (even 2) would not be a problem. It's about finding a nice property in a nice area for him.

If he doesn't mind a bit of a drive now and then rather than a commute - then this is lovely I think in chipping Norton

I was going to say Chippy too (born and bred, but not lived there for 10 years, so may be behind the times on house prices?)

But relatively easy to get to the M40 either via Banbury or Oxford. And the countryside is fab!

Crikeyalmighty · 25/11/2022 16:41

@WhenYouAreALittleGlebe I thought that was a really nice place I posted for the money in chippy

TizerorFizz · 25/11/2022 16:54

I would look around Abingdon. Easy access to M4 for Windsor. Easy access to Oxford.
