Is this bad work or to be expected?

I’m a first time home owner having my bathroom done. The white grout in between the lining of the window area and the tile seems a bit excessive and messy. I’m not sure if this is the norm or a job not done well? Also the wall has been plastered which I will be painting over but there are areas that aren’t smooth and I imagine will show up a lot once painted? Just wanted some opinions from more experienced people please

No, that’s really messy, the second picture doesn’t look newly plastered at all?

Newwardrobe · 10/11/2022 20:33

I'd get then back , that's an awful job.

BubbleBather · 10/11/2022 20:41

Regarding the plaster, they've only gone over little bits here and there and those bits aren't great. Should they be doing the whole wall? It's the bathroom fitter who arranged the plasterer so I don't know what was agreed.

Is the grout situation acceptable or not really?

No I would absolutely not be OK with that! It's so messy! Definitely get them back.

validnumber · 10/11/2022 20:43

That's awful! Both pictures.
Have you paid them in full?

Igotjelly · 10/11/2022 20:44

Agree that’s an awful job. Personally I would expect them to skim the whole wall but obviously depends what’s agreed.

validnumber · 10/11/2022 20:45

Actually are they still in the middle of doing it all or finished?
Maybe they plan to clear up the grout? And come back and do a proper job on the plaster?
I could do a better job and have done on the grout! It's not even hard!

dudsville · 10/11/2022 20:45

I don't see the problem with the grouting, but agree about the wall plastering.

I'd ask them to skim the whole wall - that's really not OK. If you stick with that plastering you'll have to use a textured paint which will be rough and gather dust (we had to do this when I was living with my mum as a friend of hers did the plastering and it covered the wall all right but was in no way a professional smooth skim)
