I am 35 years old, I left London to move to Midlands as I thought it would be cheaper. I only earn around 24000 and only have a deposit of 10000. I am very worried about the impact of HS2 of housing in the West Midlands.

It’s quite a big place the Midlands specifically where is it that you’ve got in mind to live ?

So potentially you are looking at buying a property up to 118k.
Are you single ? Childless ?. I'm sure you could find something in that budget .

It is cheaper in the West Midlands than London, but your income and savings are quite low for your age so you may struggle. What is the price of a one bed flat where you are looking?

AmberGer · 11/11/2022 08:12

You could look at shared ownership then as your income increases you could step up to gradually own more of the property until it is 100% Your own.

You can get a 2 bed terrace in places like Stoke or Telford for 100k. Worth a look, some are not in bad shape.

Many thanks for your help

yeah I am single would love to find a partner. I moved up to Birmingham very recently and I don’t know anyone here. I moved for a job but the money I am getting is low. I am struggling. I know I should be grateful that I have a job. I don’t know if I should move back down south where my friend and family are. I could get a better job

Houses are so much cheaper there than down south, and it's a densely populated area, so there's plenty of opportunity to make new friends. As you've only recently moved, you're maybe feeling a bit lonely. In the longer term, it may be the best thing. If I were you, I'd concentrate on making friends, settling in, doing well in your job so that there may be opportunities for promotion, and see how you feel in a year's time.

I moved to the midlands from London. People are so much more friendly here. I worked at it, but now have lots of lovely people to do stuff with. You’ve no hope of ever buying down south…….
