Tiles or fake wood planks downstairs

I'm having a kitchen extension and will soon need flooring for downstairs. There is currently none/floorboards/concrete.

I'm trying to decide whether to go for white tiles in hall, kitchen, utility and carpet in sitting rooms, or go for wood basically throughout - likely to be a dark wood to match the style of the house.

I used to worry about cold floors with tiles but floors are always cold I now know...

What do people suggest?

I have wood-effect Karndean through the hall, downstairs loo, kitchen, utility and dining room and love it.
It's slightly softer and more forgiving than tile if you drop stuff on it, has proved tough and easy to clean, was put in at different times but all matches perfectly and still looks like new several years on.
Comes in loads of finishes and effects: wood, tile...
We do still have carpet in our sitting room for warmth/cosy effect and a large rug in the dining room.

What colour have you gone for? We had this in our last home in oak. This isn't the house for oak, so I am thinking of other options.
