I put my foot through the floorboards of the upstairs loo (a bloke writes). One board had become weakened over time - but I didn't know by how much. The foot went through the kitchen ceiling - not difficult as it's basically almost plaster of Paris, it seems. I was lucky to miss the pipes.
Now the refit offers an opportunity of sorts. The loo is not soundproof and I'd really rather it was. But seeing the attached picture, I mean it's hardly surprising noise travels. What would be best to fill that space? And as the whole kitchen ceiling is being redone (we are getting that renovatedseparately, it's not related to the loo floor damage), might it be an option to tackle the soundproofing from that angle instead? Or can you only really soundproof from above, if u see what I mean.
Someone on Mumsnet recommended www.soundproofingstore.co.uk/ in particular the floors section is relevant so I might be answering my own question here but does anyone else have any ideas before we put it to our decorators?
The loo wall is shared with a small bedroom which works best when the bed is right on the other side of the wall but in this case I can't see how to insulate that wall on the loo side because it might impair the installation of a central heating radiator. It might be better to have insulation on the bedroom side of the wall.
