Electric Boiler replacement for gas?

Plumber is recommending we get our gas boiler (in a modern well-insulated flat - 17 years old so boiler due replacement) replaced with an electric one. I know it's more expensive to use electricity than gas but the heating is only ever on for about three months a year, more problems with the flat being boiling tbh. Bills are small.

We ideally want to sell flat but may have to rent it for a couple of years (problems with banks and the EWS1 that we do not need and cannot get because we don't need it - another thread perhaps!) so I am keen to maintain it to a high level. We'd get gas hob changed out for an induction one at same time.

Any thoughts?

£££££££££ to run. No way I'd want one right now.

Even if you use heating for an hour a day nov/Dec/jan only?

god that’s disappointing. Any other experiences?

The electric ones cost a fortune to run currently don't they?

It it's a small flat maybe not that much of an issue though. I know someone who has one in a moderate-sized house and their bill is eyewatering.

It'll kill your epc rating which might stop you renting it out.

You could look into panel radiators plus a water cylinder with an ashp. That'll be pricy, though.

Why are you replacing the boiler if there's nothing wrong with it?
In my experience gas boilers go on years.
If you do replace I'd go for gas, cheaper to run and more attractive to future buyers.
Heating water by gas is much cheaper than electricity and that's all year round.

Stick with a gas boiler. I wouldn't buy somewhere that is all electric normally let alone with the prices as they are now, and they will get more expensive come April. Also just because you find the flat boiling, doesn't mean someone else will and they will be shelling out £££££ with an all electric property.

Would make the flat more difficult to sell, more expensive energy bills when you do use the heating. No, I can't see why you would get one.

Wow, unanimous! Flipping plumber had my DH totally convinced, yet again thank God for mumsnet!

Have found a good heating guy to look at existing gas boiler.

All electric house due to no gas in village. Would never pick an electric system if there were an alternative - it's soooooo expensive.
