Tenancy agreement

Hoping someone here can help with this query - I am currently renting a flat and my tenancy agreement expired two weeks ago. I have been in communication with the landlord about getting an updated tenancy agreement, but they still have not sent it on, so currently I don't have any valid contract etc. What position does this put me in? Could they just turn around tomorrow and tell me to leave?

Where are you?

It turns into a rolling monthly contract, generally speaking. With a month of notice for you to tell them you're leaving and longer for them to tell you you have to leave.

You don't need a new tenancy, you will now be on a periodic assured shorthold, the period being the frequency of rent payments, normally monthly.

Landlord would still have to serve you 2 months notice to seek possession.

If you sign a new fixed term agreement that will usually prevent a landlord's notice being served on a no fault basis during the fixed term (or rather a s21 notice cannot expire in the fixed term).

Thanks both for the advice, I'm based in London. I didn't actually know about the periodic assured shorthold, so that's good news!
