House or flat

i currently live in a flat in London, and we are looking to buy a flat or a house in Fulham. I am a single Mum to a teenager, and have never lived in a house in London before. Would it be safe enough to live in a house? I hear of so many burglaries. The flats we are looking at are nice too but are much smaller than houses.

Are you real? Why would you be especially worried about burglaries in Fulham?

And why are the flats you’re looking at smaller than the houses?? Flats are usually cheaper per square foot than houses.

Interestingly, the flats we liked were more expensive than houses, perhaps because the buildings were modern. Lots of people I talked to mentioned burglaries.

I’d be more worried about the fact that flats are leasehold.

Get a big first floor mansion flat
What is your budget

Chelseacoffee · 04/11/2022 22:46

Yes, and the flats are leasehold, that’s a worry too. But we are more concerned about safety.

I live in south London, own a 2nd floor leasehold flat. No issues with lease but do check it and especially who the freeholder is, ours is council and they don’t do much upkeep but equally they don’t charge much in service fees.
I do feel much safer living in a flat, usually my DH here but if not I’ve never worried about my safety. So many houses on our street have had break ins. But totally depends on the area

Lcb123, that’s exactly my concern. So many houses with break ins in London, and am worried my teen won’t feel safe when I am at work etc. Thanks for the advice on the freeholder, I ll check but I think it’s a private freeholder

Fulham has upmarket and not so upmarket areas and council estates. Where are you looking? What's your budget?
I own a flat in Parsons Green, and I'd let my teenage daughter live there. It's as safe as one could expect in a major city, very much young professionals and families. But there are other areas in Fulham that are not as safe.
My 560sq ft two bedroom flat on New Kings Rd is worth £750k.

Chelseacoffee · 04/11/2022 23:13

@mondaytosunday We are looking at South Park- Parsons Green areas. Also a bit at Sands End. But we like Parsons Green most.

I would not worry about staying in a flat in that area, it is beautiful there.
obviously houses are much easier to break into.. I quite like Sands end, it is less connected but also more affordable

Ummm I was burgled in Fulham? Why would burglaries not happen in Fulham?

Obviously they happen in Fulham, they happen everywhere. But Fulham is hardly a hotbed or crime.

Chelseacoffee · 05/11/2022 09:47

I think my question is more of a house or a flat in Fulham. Just because so many people get burgled in houses there.
