I'm getting a DIY kitchen, shade Mussel which is an off-white-giege for my tiny new kitchen.

I'd love to get aged brass handles and obviously was thinking the same for my kitchen too.
However I would prefer a stainless steel under mounted sink, over a white ceramic one. Will that look weird?

I can't seem to find an images on-line showing my preference, so I guess it might be?

I’m not sure what an ‘under mounted sink’ is… but surely stainless steel would go with most finishes?

SiobhanSharpe · 25/10/2022 18:26

I suppose it might not look great with the antique brass handles, though. Are you wedded to those?

notangelinajolie · 25/10/2022 18:34

How about an antique brass sink?

TheHappyLoser · 25/10/2022 19:32

Sorry my original post doesn't really make sense!

I want:
Brass kitchen tap
Stainless steel under mounted sink

But I'm not sure the two go together?

I love the look of white ceramic, but I'm too slobby to rinse it out every time I use it (mostly chucking tea dregs in before putting my mug in the dishwasher - I don't actually wash up by hand very often!) and they seem to get dirty looking much quicker than a stainless steel sink?

This is an example of a undermount sink,
So you don't see much of the sink until you are on top of it, but as I mentioned I have a tiny kitchen, so you are next to the sink at all times Smile

I am not a fan of your suggested combination but it’s not my kitchen. Anyway you could go to a kitchen showroom/homebase/b&q and wander round with one of their brass taps and see how it looks against a display stainless steel sink?
FWIW - I don’t find out white butler sink difficult to clean. I occasionally spritz it very lightly with dettol mould & mildew remover, leave for a minute and rinse - it comes up very white.

HopelessOptimistism · 25/10/2022 20:06

What about a silgranit sink of another colour? I think you can get white too but not sure if they stain easily like a ceramic sink.

LoveLabradors · 25/10/2022 21:14

I’ve had both stainless steel and white ceramic and would go for the latter every time. Easy to clean and I think far more attractive.

mynameiscalypso · 25/10/2022 21:37

I don't think stainless steel sinks age well. Ours has got very scratched very quickly.

S1ntija · 28/10/2022 12:51

Hi,

Have you considered going for a composite under-mounted sink?
They are slightly more expensive, but they come in a variety of colours and are much more hard-wearing than the ceramic sink.

They do come in a white colour.

FurnitureDisease · 28/10/2022 12:57

Hi OP,

I’ve worked in this area for many years

ceramic shouldn’t stain easily. They are clay / fired glaze and generally quite stain resistant. The downside to them is if you are heavy handed like me and just chuck things into it you will soon find yourself without any crockery as they will smash.

white composite on the other hand, as suggested by a PP, would be your worst nightmare for staining

black composite may show water marks depending on water hardness in your area

stainless steel is NOT stainless and will scratch, as others have pointed out.

So pros and cons to all of them!

As a separate aside if you want a boiling water tap it will really need to be a metal / steel material one

im sure I’ve seen brass ones with my suppliers before I’ll see if I can find one

Hope this helps xx

Is this the kind of thing?

Kitchen Sink and tap advice please.
ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 28/10/2022 13:11

Stainless sinks look horrible very fast. Get the ceramic.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 28/10/2022 13:12

I have white composite and it's a stain nightmare.

Caspianberg · 28/10/2022 13:14

I have white ceramic under mount. No stains at all and matches our white ceramic worktop seemlessly

procrastinator8 · 29/10/2022 21:07

A brass tap won’t look good with a steel sink imo. Go for white ceramic.

procrastinator8 · 29/10/2022 21:53

Can anyone advise on ceramic vs fire clay ceramic please? Thanks

Stripedbag101 · 29/10/2022 22:40

What about a Belfast sink?

skippy67 · 30/10/2022 14:45

I have a non horrible, undermount stainless steel sink, with a brushed brass tap. I like the look.
