Wooden floor - Engineered, laminate, LVT or solid wood?

It’s for the lounge and hallway in a 1960s bungalow we are renovating for my Dad. No pets and just one old man living there.

I have original waxed wooden floors in my own house and although beautiful, they are a pain - every time the cat throws up or the kids spill something it leaves a mark. So I’m leaning towards easy care, but I don’t want it to look naff.

Different shops are saying different things. The first place said laminate (click system) floating floor gives better results and is more insulated. Second shop says they’ve stopped doing click systems because they’ve caused them so much grief; so they recommended stick down LVT.

Any experiences, good or bad? Also wondering about cork.

Yes, it would. Mine is laid on concrete with underlay and is totally silent. It looks like real floorboards too.

That’s beautiful. What brand is that?

@Movinghouseatlast Love the look of your floor. Can you say what it is?

@MrsDrDear it's a brand called Polyflor but I can't remember what colour it is.

I have both LVT and engineered wood and would go for LVT. I love my engineered wood but it isn’t very durable have quite a few dints in it. We have LVT in kitchen and hall and much more durable

We researched a lot as well. Put engineered wood in sitting room where we have low traffic and LVT through the hallway, living, kitchen. We had wood parquet and engineered wood throughout previously but it was a nightmare to maintain with young kids and adults with shoes/heels on. There was an option to sand and polish the whole thing but I didnt want the hassle again. LVT is much more resilient and easy to maintain.

We went for Quick-step Alpha Vinyl LVT over Karndean after reviewing lots of samples at our home, because it has a matt finish and we didnt like the glossy look of Karndean especially in areas where we get direct sun. You should order lots of samples and review at home before deciding. You can do all sorts of tests on the samples to see how hard wearing they are.

I went with LVT for the whole of the downstairs. I love it. It looks lovely, easy to clean and non slip

Can you tell the make and colour of your LVT please.
