Cast iron skillet

I bought this cast iron skillet last year Feb on Amazon and never used it. I found a recipe that I needed it for at the weekend and I brought it out to find it rusty. I washed it but could still see rust so I have to use a ceramic oven dish instead.
Is it ever possible to get rid of this rust? I have sent a message to seller and waiting to hear back but I am just wondering what can be done to remove this rust and if it's even safe to use after removing the rust.

Scrub the rust off with a scouring pad an then seal/season properly.

Rust isn't dangerous, your blood is made of it.

As above! Just scrub the rust off and it will be fine.

You may want to season it afterwards- basically bake it in the oven with some oil on - to restore its natural protective surface. It also helps if you don’t use too much soap when washing it up (some say just wipe round rather than washing) to preserve the seasoning.

Rust happens when the seasoning wears off and if it’s not dried fully after washing.

Agree with above, scrub with wire brush and re-season, then only wash in very hot water, no soap.
I think I used linseed oil to re-season mine but it could have just been vegetable. Definitely not olive oil.
There's lots of re-seasoning advice online, all using an oven. I did mine on a hob and followed a recipe for wok seasoning.
Once done properly your pan will last forever and will be pretty much non-stick. It's my favourite pan despite weighing a ton and needing 2 hands to toss a pancake.
