Moving to Norwich Norfolk... but where is best...?

Hi all!

I'm looking to move to back to Norfolk, uk and we have a teenager, and a 11 year old.

I grew up there but it's changed SO much
that I'm really not sure what it's really like anymore.

Schools are the most important thing, followed by proximity to Norwich so said teenager can get there on public transport and of course more work opportunities.

BUT we love the great outdoors, the coast, cycling, walking, and we have pets ....

I keep searching in and around Hoveton and Wroxham. Please can I have some HONEST opinions about what it's like please? Nice, friendly or chavvy or rough ??😄

Thank you!

Of no help whatsoever and I’m sure someone will come along soon with knowledge, but does Roy still own all of the retail in Wroxham? I was always fascinated by Roy’s domination when I went there years ago 😂.

Help!! I want to move to Norfolk but after a very long post from a lady owning an air bnb and completely destroying Norfolk in every way imaginable, im starting to wonder would it be a huge mistake?? Any honest advice I would be truly grateful for
Thankyou

@Pearldiamond8 start your own thread as everyone will reply to the original post.

However I've lived in Norfolk for 20+ years and I love it. Just be aware that anywhere in the Broads is a flood plain so highly likely to experience flooding. I like South of Great Yarmouth so Gorleston, Hopton, Oulton Broad Beccles the main touristy town centres of Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth are nice to visit but not somewhere I'd choose to live.

If hospitals are important to you there are three, Gorleston, Norwich and Kings Lynn.

Schools are much of a muchness, GCSE results aren't fantastic BUT that's as much to do with no grammar schools and a higher than average proportion of SEND in the area than anything, bright children do well regardless

I really like Martham got a good feeling when I view a property there in the summer, does anyone live there or nearby perhaps?

Martham is nice enough. I don't think it gets flooded but it is fairly close to the Broads so the roads accessing it may do, you should check the environment agency website for that
Martham itself is nice and quaint but not masses to do in the village so you would probably need to travel for some activities for yourself and any children but that's true for most of Norfolk anyway and it's not far from Yarmouth or Norwich. Nearest cinema, swimming pool and is likely to be the Marina Centre in Yarmouth.

Public transport you have the 1, 1a and 1b buses basically they do coastal towns and then Yarmouth down to Lowestoft it's about 45mins by bus to Yarmouth where you would either get the bus or train to Norwich and then any other connections so I would expect to be ferrying any teens around until they can drive.

Thankyou for your advice, very helpful I don’t have any young children so no worry’s there

If you look at Gorleston, it's less quaint village but is mostly residential so less holiday makers and second home owners, High street has a cinema and lots of eateries and a large Morrisons, a small theatre on the seafront, transport links are better and there is more to do plus it's walking distance to a lovely sandy beach. Coastal erosion is not an issue as there are good sea defences in place and flooding only happen at the sea level properties near the harbour, every where else is on higher land.

I grew up there after my parents moved us there from London and I loved it, being walking distance to the beach is worth it's weight in gold.
