Wallpaper or paint?

How difficult is wallpaper for DIY? Hate painting and prefer the look of wallpaper but wonder if this is a difficult skill and easy to mess up. Any advice welcome.

I would rather wallpaper than paint. But I’m told my opinion is widely agreed with 😂.

I never wallpaper with a bright colour or huge pattern as u can fall out of love with it easily. So I normally do a subtle pattern.

if u want to do it urself you tube is good for a guide. Becareful if it’s a pattern as the edges will have to line up. So u will have to buy more than u realise.

Paste the wall is a lot easier and less messy than having to use a paste table. The important thing is to use a plumb line to get your 1st strip on the wall straight. As previous poster says watch a few you tube tutorials first.

It's not so hard, but the result will depend on your skill with a knife/scissors and attention to detail. It's a bit like anything that involves covering something with a sheet. If you are good at wrapping presents, or covering a book with paper you'll probably be good at wallpapering.

Patterned wallpaper has the added complexity of matching the patterns. Thin paper is harder than thick paper, because it tears. Around windows and doors and other wall features is significantly harder than straight up and down pieces.

There's a technique to learn, probably on youtube. There is equipment to buy in addition to wallpaper and paste. Wallpaper... brush, scissors, knife, sponge, roller table to paste on & plumbline/laser/level. A lining paper is often required for a perfect finish, so you could practice with that. Walls plaster needs to be good for good result.

Paste the wall is easier. Start with something without a pattern match and on a wall with limited features (i.e no fireplace, light switches, sockets, alcoves etc)

It depends on your walls really. If they are fairly straight it’s not too difficult. I struggle a bit with chimney breasts if they are wonky.
It’s all in the prep though.
Make sure you strip any existing paper really well, fill and uneven bits of plaster and sand them down so they are nice and smooth. A textured or patterned paper is more forgiving but might not be your taste.
