New windows.. gaps?

Does this look right? Just had doors and windows fitted. I'm not too happy with a few things in general but does anyone have knowledge or opinion on gaps in the corners in new uPVC windows?

Some are flush and others have gaps like this. They said it was normal but can use sealant to fill. I'm doubting this now.

That’s the edging that can be removed to put new glass in. It holds the glass secure.
it should fit snugly with no gap.
I wouldn’t be happy with that, it’s either not been made properly or fitted incorrectly.

So how should I ask them to fix it?

Not sealant I presume?

( Thank you!)

Just take photos of all the snags you want sorting and email it to them. They should fix it all. We had snags after our new windows were fitted, it's quite normal. They came out and sorted it all out.

Is it? Ok, thanks. But they won't or shouldn't just bung sealant in? That is what he suggested when I queried it.

Doesn’t look right and I wouldn’t be fobbed off with sealant even on aesthetic grounds - you’ve presumably paid a lot of money and should get a good quality job!

I won't share what else they did today as it's outing, but they've been shoddy clearing up. Found screws all over the place, in house and on drive. I am worried I may have one in my tyre as I coincidentally had low tyre pressure warning lights come on this morning.

Small scratch on new door handle too but don't know if that's picky. It isn't conspicuous but I can feel it and it's pissed me off because of other stuff.

Tell them all of this. Have you paid in full?

No that’s not right, looks like the beads have been cut too short. I wouldn’t be happy with that on new windows.

Its an easy fix just needs a new bead that’s a bit longer, don’t pay the full amount till they come back and change it.

Thanks everyone. Boss came today and I pointed lots of stuff out. He said to email it all to him and we'll work out plan to fix things.

I've also had it checked by a friend in trade and he's pointed out a bunch more snags.

The boss was still trying to tell me that gaps were manufacturer recommended and they'd just fill them. My friend has confirmed this is bullshit.

The fitters could have trimmed the bead down , sometimes the are difficult to get in and trimming a bit off makes it easier.

Windywuss · 13/10/2022 20:03

I sent the email today with a list of photos and what I expected them to do to fix it...i.e. stop bullshitting me about bunging some sealant in etc.

There's about 20 faults besides the other identifying incidental fuck up that was not even part of the job Angry

I just hope they're capable of doing it properly!

I agree with others that that’s pretty poor. Professionals should be able to produce a far higher standard of finish than that.
