Is under floor heating super expensive?

We currently have no heating in our kitchen and are planning to get the whole room refurbed, so obviously plan to sort the heating at the same time.

We've not got a lot of wall space for radiators so are looking at underfloor. Our builder has recommended electric.

I asked the obvious question - isn't it crazy expensive to run - but he said not these days.

Is this true??

At the moment we're using a little fan heater so not the most efficient.

Yes and no.

It means you can turn the rest of your heating down because you feel the cold less otherwise.

Its best if you offset the cost with solar on your roof, insulate well and keep the house temperature consistent throughout the day so it retains heat as much as possible.

I don't think its uneconomical in the right set up. I think its extortionate in the wrong set up.

I recently had my kitchen renovated and couldn't have wet underfloor for a number of reasons.

Instead I have a compromise - hot water pipes run under the cupbards (and floor in a couple of places) round to kickboard fan heaters. So the heat is via the hot water system and pushed out by electric fan which can be turned on and off independently

We used to have electric underfloor heating which was crazy expensive before the price hikes. It was never on and the kitchen was an ice box.

I would second looking at plinth heater's. Ours is great and warms the kitchen just as well as the radiator did previously. No radiator is a pain though as we have nowhere to dry towels.
