Stair bulkhead in kids room

Hi, anyone like playing around with small bedroom design, or offer any insights that would help future proof the design?

My sons room has the stair bulkhead in it. I can't decide whether to build a wardrobe on top, and keep an on the floor or mid rise bed. This frees the opposite wall for a desk in the future eg Lego!

Or build a bed over it with pull out storage under.

Or a bed with desk under.

Room dimensions :
256m wide (window wall)
278m long

Ah, yes. In that case I would put the bed over the bulkhead, there isn't really anywhere else for a bed to go!

There is - under the window!

I see you've settled on wardrobe, but I'll tell you what my friends have done anyway...
Their sons room looks identical to your sons.

they put one end of the bed onto the bulk head and built up legs at the window end. They put shelves up on the bulk head wall and he has a chest of drawers & wardrobe on the other long wall.

He was about 20 when they did it, he's huge & 17 now & it still works for him!

Due to the door and window placement I don't understand why the bed isn't infront of the door, with the headboard on the window wall. We have that, with a bunk bed that helps with sleepovers and family visits. Wardrobe on the bulkhead, desk where your son's bed is. Allows light through the room.

I don't like beds (or any furniture) under a window.

The room is the same as my friend's son's. It wouldn't fit (well not if you wanted a door opening into the room!)

Is he Benjamin Button?

My box room looks incredibly similar with a bulkhead in it. I've had a local joiner build a wardrobe over it. I've attached pics of before/after. The bottom of the bed sits just below it. I can still access the shelves underneath, and doors open well above the bed itself. I'm absolutely thrilled with how it worked out is absolutely the best use of space in that room

I'd go for storage above the bulkhead purely because changing the sheets on a raised bed is a bugger.

People often say this and I really don't find it an issue!

Thanks for the pictures @Restlessinthenorth! Will you need to stand on the bed to open the wardrobe? I can't decide whether to go for front or side access.

@Reluctantadult I can open up and get stuff from it being stood at the side and just lean over. It's no drama at all! Room looks so much bigger now I've done this
