Do colour charts still exist?

I went to B&Q today and not a colour chart in sight for any brand. Are they a thing of the past now or is it just my local shop? Used to love browsing them to choose a colour.

I picked some up the other day.

I can only find them in Brewers decorator centres now.

ContadoraExplorer · 08/10/2022 20:15

They usually have individual cards at the Valspar bit that are all in order by colour then tone, and I've picked up F&B colour charts there too and then got a Valspar colour match of the shade I wanted...

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 08/10/2022 20:16

I hate those Valspar colours. They overwhelm me, there’s too many. And they never look right under that special light thing.

pennee · 08/10/2022 20:17

You’re right they did have Valspar individual ones. I just don’t know where to start with what I want 😆
will try an independent decorator shop and see if they have them if their still producing them. Thanks all

My starting point these days is usually Pinterest or Houzz, search for the room I'm decorating get ideas of what sort of colour/style I want and go from there.

Good luck OP!

You can buy a colour fan chart from farrow and ball. £10 it's huge and has been really helpful. B&Q will mix the paint colour to match

FuzzyPuffling · 08/10/2022 21:31

Little Greene do them. Better than bedtime reading!

I know what you mean about the Valspar cards! Too much choice.

I picked up two on a visit to B&Q last week - a B&Q range one and a Dulux one- they were on the shelves alongside the paints. If you contact Dulux customer services I'm sure they would send you one too.

Others we have are from Leyland trade and Johnstones trade which I think are basically the same company. These we picked up in our local independent paint shop where all the local professional decorators go.

We also have a little green and Farrow and Ball ones which we got by post - I think theres a form on their websites

HairyKnobsAndBroomsticks · 10/10/2022 11:08

Yes I picked some up in Homebase the other day.

BlueMongoose · 11/10/2022 20:50

Local independent decorator shops have them for the good smaller firms like Leyland and Johnstones, and the more niche makes like Farrow and Ball and earthborn and Lakeland, as a poster mentions upthread. Dulux Decorator Centres have them for Dulux, though they tend to be Trade colours (thicker paint, same colour, bigger choice of finish).

Sestriere · 12/10/2022 06:24

Dulux decorator centres have them. They are open to the general public but it’s where the trade guys go. I love a Dulux decorator centre, the staff are super helpful, they will mix up any colour or match one of your own like a farrow and ball and have match pots for all the heritage colours.

BeetFeet · 12/10/2022 08:53

You can order Farrow & Ball and Little Greene charts online.

I was always overwhelmed with colour choices and finally cracked it by choosing a colour from one of the above charts (minimising my indecisiveness) and then I colour match it at Valspar. Colour matches are not always exact but it doesn't bother me.

I have also just discovered the 10litre trade valspar paint - it's extra tough and goes on like butter. Only comes in 10litres though.
