Bathroom upgrade

Moved into my house nearly 2 years ago. Hate my bathroom tiles especially the border tiles. Don't want to spend a fortune but want to update it. The wall above the bath is a plaster board wall so think it might cause havoc to remove them. I haven't used the bath since I moved in as I'm not really a bath person and it has a burn mark in the bath so needs replaced anyway.

I would like to update the decor without so much tile outside of the shower and above the bath. Keep it simple so any future changes won't be so hellish.

Also is it possible to cover the tiles with a glass/platic sheet (sorry my terminology for these things is woeful) rather than having to remove all the tiles ? Everything works fine in the bathroom but the decor is my bugbear.

Any suggestions or pointers to do an upgrade on the decor would be gratefully received.

Putting aqua board or similar over tiles is a bodge job. Don't bodge it! Personally I would save for longer so you can afford to do it all properly. The tiles you have are quite inoffensive. We had a sort of burgundy/brown coloured tile that was like you were showering in someone's bowel. We had the whole room gutted and started again.

You could try painting the walls a different colour in the meantime?

As a temp measure, I have painted our (truly awful- green and brown speckles) tiles with cream tile paint. Didn't need to sand the tiles I had, degreasing was enough with the Johnstone's paint- water based too, so no horrible vapours. Took 3 coats though. But looks much better.

Your bathroom is dated, but totally inoffensive. I was expecting something terrible, it's not, just a bit "beige".

I would absolutely not paint, tile over or any other bodge. If it really bothers you wait until you can afford a professional tiler.
