Of course need to set up bills.
Also need to buy just about everything - nothing has been left behind and I used to live in a furnished property.
Do most people change locks?

Where to even start?! Any tips/advice most welcome :)

Our first house, I was alone one evening and there was a knock at the door. Previous owner and her mother about to let themselves in to 'look for a Hoover'! 70s unfriendly divorce, he'd sold the house without her knowing.
I'd change the barrels in the locks.

Change the lock barrel rather than the whole lock. Quick and easy and much cheaper.

Google for you-tube videos on how-to.

Change the locks. If there’s an alarm change the code.
Get a chain for the front door if there isn’t already one.
Give the whole place a good clean.
Find out bin day(s) and set reminders in your phone to put them out the night before.
Find your local doctors surgery and get registered.
Read the meters, check you know where the stopcocks, fuse board etc are.
Check lightbulbs and see if you need any spares.
Get a torch and make sure it’s got batteries and you know where you keep it.

Change locks. You'll sleep better.

Another vote for changing the locks. You might have trouble with your insurer if you didn't, just for a start.
Also, try charity shops/ebay for furniture, yes, but keep an eye on Freecycle too. We've passed on things like a fully working Bosch fridge and freezer, radiators, all sorts that way. We didn't have to skip it, peopel got free stuff, win-win. I just wish some people had better manners, though. We find that when we offer things for free, we often have people want stuff, say they were coming for it, not turn up or ring, then arrange another time, then not turn up again. The last 2 times we had some kitchen units going spare, some really nice glass cabinets in one case with leaded glass, we just took them to the tip after a few people wanted them and never turned up, as due to other work being done we hadn't the space to store it until we found someone who would came when thy said they would.

Is freecycle on facebook?

www.freecycle.org

You could also try Facebook marketplace, or see if your area has a local group, ours is called AreaName Bargains. Try the ones for local towns/suburbs too if you have transport.
