How to buy a new front door

I know, I know, this sounds so stupid, but how do I get a new front door?

I want a company to come and measure it up, order the door and install it. How do I find one?

I can see doors online, but I’m struggling to find anywhere that will do the whole process.

(Based in Manchester if anyone has any local recommendations!)

Google double glazing and doors near me and see which local companies come up. Avoid safestyle, Anglian and Everest and look for reviews for a local company. You could ask on the Nextdoor app or local FB groups for recommendations.

I’d do it the other way round and find the tradesman first (local joiner/door fitter) and they’ll probably recommend a supplier they usually order from.

Ask on Facebook.

We have a couple of local to us and they do it all. Have a showroom or book to look through.

Just had mine done by www.safestyle-windows.co.uk. Highly recommend them. Local area sales guy, came by, measured up, had samples. Once I placed the order second ‘surveyor’ guy, came and remeasured everything to check to initial measurements were correct and to confirm my choices. Door fitted 6 weeks later, on a day of my choice. Workmen very polite, and we’re done well within 3 hours. I went from white door to black door, makes a heck of a difference to the property.

I got a solidor on the front and back. If you go on their website and design a door you like then the website sends it through to your most local supplier/installer who will quote you within around 24-48hrs, you can then get in touch with them if you want to proceed with the quote and they’ll come and survey, order the door, and arrange a date for installation.

Front door (bigger and more fancy) was £2160 incl VAT and fitting.
Back door (smaller and less fancy) was £1160 incl VAT and fitting.

I've used CES for windows before, I liked them as a company.
I have a solidor from a local company and had a load of issues with it, still unresolved after 2 years Sad

Simply Doors in Newcastle Under Lyme supplied and fitted our new front door and I'm really pleased with it.

We chose the colour, the glass etc

As others have said I would be inclined to get the fitter first and then ask them for their recommended suppliers etc. Its not a particularly complex job so a local odd jobs man/ basic builder etc would be able to do it.

When we needed our door replaced I looked on checkatrade and then rang up two or three of the firms listed choosing the ones closest as its not worth builders travelling miles and miles for. In the end we went with one of the people I contacted as he had been recommended by a colleague too - he had a catalogue from his supplier and had links with two companies locally that are trade only so he had a range of doors available - wood, upvc, various designs etc. He also said that if we found one on the internet he could source and fit that too.

Ring up though - builders dont seem to like emails very much!
