Black interior doors

Replacing the doors on the ground floor and wondering whether to go for black. I really like the crittall/industrial look but not sure if it would look a bit pathetic without nice high ceilings (70s house).

Walls are white and will have dark wood floor throughout with colourful plants and art on walls.

I'd like kitchen and living room to have glazed ones, like this.

What do you think, any potential pitfalls?? Shall I just stick to white?

I really like that one in the picture, but not sure about all black.

Are your doors glass like the photo? If so I'd say yes, that will look great.

Yeah, the living room and kitchen would have glass, but then we've also got a downstairs bathroom so not sure what I'd go for there. All black with no glass might be a bit stark. 😬

Yes, especially in a small room. It might feel like a dungeon.

You could paint that one first, try it put for a couple of weeks and see how it looks.

Do you have children? We have these and they look nice but I am forever cleaning off handprints.

JustAJokeLikeOnTopGear · 01/10/2022 15:33

Have you seen the ones with reeded glass? They'd match and obscure the view of the loo.

Might still be a bit exposed for some people but I think they're lovely.

Interesting point. I have a 15-week old baby who in a couple of years will no doubt be getting grubby pawmarks all over everything 🫣

But do you love the doors regardless, @Wheretheskyisblue, and think it's worth the fingerprints? (She asks, hopefully...)

I did think of this and thought it was a bit edgy -- but the loo is not directly in front of where the door would be anyway so there's no reason it couldn't be an option! Hmmm

We only have a pair like this and I am pleased with them (they match our external doors) but I think I would regret getting the whole house done as I am forever cleaning them with windowlene.

House built in 1968. Have an all black door on downstairs cloakroom which is tiny.
Critical style doors between dining and kitchen. Black framed frosted glass doors from porch to living room and between kitchen and utility. All looks good and get fair amount of compliments. Walls in F&B Blackend and woodwork in Railings.

Are you buying new doors or just deciding which colour to paint them? Glass internal doors are a bit naff and I wouldn’t buy them if you don’t have them already.

Lavendersquare · 03/10/2022 23:47

If you have children I wouldn't have glazed internal doors, even with safety glass they are risky.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 03/10/2022 23:57

Oak doors come with various amounts of glass, and can look either modern or traditional according to their surroundings, and you can always paint them if you want to ( bit of a waste though) .I think they are less likely to date than metal.

BTW, you can stick paper or fabric over glass if you find it gets dirty, and then peel it of if the the situate changes.

stemthetide · 04/10/2022 08:59

Wouldn't people using the loo feel the lack of privacy if they had to put the light on, even with reeded glass?

muchprefersummer · 04/10/2022 09:05

Having had glazed doors with toddlers and a dog - I would never have them again unless you want to spend your life cleaning and worrying about them smashing it.

Are they naff?!

I was thinking it would be good for light flow, but we never shut the doors anyway so guess that's not a huge issue 🤷‍♀️
