Moving from council tax C to E

If I move on (say) 1st December from a C to E property, what happens about the £400 discount?

Some suppliers are reducing by £66 some are lump sum into bank accounts. Obviously lump sum works better for me but my supplier is a smaller one who hasn't announced its approach.

Are you getting confused with the council tax rebate?
The £400 is energy.

If you move from C band to E band council tax you will no longer qualify for the rebate as the qualifying bands are D and below backwards to A. E and above don’t qualify

you will need to obviously inform council tax of your move and the dates. They will then recalculate your bill for December, January, February and March. You can keep paying the direct debit, standing order or bar code - but keep reference of payments. These payments should be switched to your new property as you should keep the same account number - but do give all the information and as soon as possible

fir utilities with the £66 & some months £67 rebate it’s probably easier to stick with the same supplier when you move to keep things simple until March when the last payment comes in

I should have been clearer in my original post. This post isn't about a council tax rebate. You only get a £400 energy rebate of you live in a council tax band A-D house. I will be moving from C to E and I wondered what effect that would have on my £400 energy rebate. My new house has a dreadful EPC so I could really do with that full rebate even though technically the new house isn't eligible.

No, the £400 spread across 6 months goes to anyone in any property.

www.gov.uk/guidance/getting-the-energy-bills-support-scheme-discount

The Energy Bills Support Scheme (£400) goes to all households with a domestic supply.

It's seperate from the £150 The Council Tax Rebate scheme.

Hugasauras · 01/10/2022 17:56

The council tax dependent one is £150 rebate on your council tax. The £400 energy is for everyone.

You're right thank you. I'd been told the new payment was linked to council tax too.

That is what confused me about the OP.
We are band-E and have received the energy rebate but we don't qualify for the council tax rebate.

Glad you're square now. One less thing to worry about! Best of luck for the move.
