Warm air heating

I have had an offer acceded on a 1980s house which still has the warm air heating. I’ve been researching and seems mixed views on it. I’m going to move in and see how it goes before making any decisions but there’s an option to replace the boiler with a new one designed for warm air heating which I think I prefer to changing the entire heating. With concrete floor it would be surface mounted pipes and then radiators to find space for. The whole house needs renovating wgixh I don’t have the money for right now so would rather keep any big changes to heating until then.

anyone replaced the boilers and kept the warm air system? Any views?

My neighbour did and it seemed fine. I think that it cools down faster as no radiators with residual heat. We decided to go the radiator route so only have had experience of warm air with an old boiler.

We replaced the warm air boiler about 6 years ago. Love the system - heats up quickly, means more furniture placement options. Finding a servicing engineer may be difficult as many have given up their tickets. But you can search the gassaferegister.co.uk under appliances and there will probably be a few around.

My house had warm air heating when we moved in 20+ years ago. The boiler broke and we replaced it with a new radiator system.

I liked the old system because it heated up so quickly but the downside was that there were only heating vents coming off the central core of the house so one of the bedrooms and bathroom had to have alternative heating sources.

My neighbours replaced their old boiler with another warm air one when it died but have said the new one doesn’t seem as powerful as the old one for some reason so beware of that if you decide to replace yours.

And some people say warm air systems create more dust which I never found to be an issue personally.

So pros and cons but on balance I prefer the radiators I think.

We moved into a house a year ago with warm air heating. Absolutely love it. Heats up so quickly and great for furniture placement as previous poster has stated. Also the cool air function was a godsend this summer.

Currently looking into the option of upgrading our boiler not much help now but I am happy to update in due course.

Would definitely recommend giving it a chance before deciding whether to replace with a radiator system.
