Hi all
We live in a 1930's semi detached and for 9 years we've had issues with the neighbors complaining about our noise (just usual day to day noise on the whole) and them blaring out smooth radio when I'm trying to get the kids to bed.

I have put my foot down and insisted if we are to stay here I want sound proofing so I don't have to hear them and so I'm not constantly asking people to be quiet and turn stuff down. It has a real impact on my mental health.

I have someone coming to give me a quote for 4 party walls which will be about £4k I think installed and plastered. He uses the British gypsum sound solutions. Does anyone have any experience of this? I'm in need of some hope 🤞

What system is he proposing to use? Is he leaving a gap and building you another wall? Or just doubling up the plasterboard using acoustic plaster boards?

Sounds travels through the walls and along the floors. I think this chap gives a good idea of what you can do. There are other options but none of them come cheap.

Somehow managed to click too soon. We have used both acoustic rockwool and acoustic plasterboard plus one of the walls (we divided a room) has another layer of normal plasterboard it does reduce noise but not a lot. The video above shows the benefit of building another wall and leaving a gap.

Ours didn’t work as noise travelled along the shared joists, not just through the walls.

Ours doesn't work because of shared joists. Initially the architect suggested rubber pads on the joists, but hinted it was OTT, so we didn't. I wish we had now.

Thanks all. I've had someone else quote today and he talked me through it. They will make a fake wall so it isn't attached to the party wall at all and then fill it with a type of wire wool apparently.

The only issues he can see is the chimney breast - apparently that won't work as well as we are having a log burner fitted. But we need that to help with the heating bills!

I'm desperate for a solution but scared of spending a lot of money on something that doesn't work 🙈
