Is the white wall an asbestos dry wall?

My shower has been leaking so a plumber came and cut the board between the shower and the boiler pipe to check what cause it. We just moved in 2 weeks ago. My head was all about unpacking the boxes and the leaking shower. When the plumber was cutting the board I was right next to him and helped him to clean up after the the wall was opened and never thought there would be an asbestos. I am so worry now. The plumber is very young. He probably didn't thought about asbestos at all at that time too.

It just looks like plasterboard to me, but I'm no expert.

It does look like plaster dust

I just wanted to comment as I had a similar panic the other month. I read online though that if you are exposed to it once, it is unlikely to cause any damage. Those with the real damage are the ones who were exposed a lot:

Perhaps stop all works until you can get it tested for peace of mind.

Just to add I am not saying I think this looks like asbestos. I have no idea what asbestos looks like! More just trying to reassure you that if it was, not to panic.

Thank you so much . Your link is very helpful. The house was built around 1890 and converted to maisonette around 1980s. Our home survey report recommends us to contact asbestos specialist to analyse our ceiling. As our purchase and sale were up and down and I was desperate for it. The asbestos concerned was totally put on aside. Will call an asbestos specialist today come to check. Fingers crossed!!!

Do you know when the shower was installed? It's really far more likely to be plasterboard than asbestos. There would be no reason to put asbestos in a shower, and it would have had to have been there for a long time, which isn't likely. Honestly I think it's 99.999% sure to be plasterboard.

Having seen both plasterboard and asbestos board I’d say that’s plasterboard.

Ihavekids · 26/09/2022 09:20

Also, it hasn't been broken in to, if that makes sense, it hasn't been disturbed. It's only dangerous if broken up and particles get into air then lungs. I've no idea if it's asbestos or plaster but I definitely wouldn't be worried about anyone's health.

The cheapest easiest way, rather than calling someone out, is to find a UKAS accredited asbestos testing laboratory and take a small piece (double bagged in 2 sealed food bags) to be tested. If there’s no one local I can suggest a company you could post it to. Usually 24 hrs turnaround.

Asbestos is sort of fibrous. You can see the fibres in it. Plasterboard is a chalk like dust sandwiched between paper

The asbestos specialists came this morning and collected some of the samples from the textured coating ceilings but nothing from the wall. He said that he couldn't see any sign of asbestos in the wall . He also think that even though the ceilings have asbestos the amount will be very little. That really give me a peace of mind:)
