Neighbour's fruit hanging over my property

My neighbours have an apple tree which partially hangs over my property. They have said I can pick as many as I want, (there are loads!) and i have had a few so far but was waiting till they were ripe before I picked them.

The other day when I got home I noticed that all the fruit on my side had gone. Their side is still fully loaded. My son said he saw a woman picking them, not one of the neighbours that he recognised. She even said hello. I have a feeling it was probably a mother of one of the NDDs.

I know that the fruit is legally theirs, but I'm pretty sure they can't come onto my property without permission to pick them. Am I right?

We have a really good neighbourly relationship - feeding cats, watering plants when away etc, so I'm not going to even mention it, but I'm a bit torn between being, yeah, whatever, it's only some apples, and, CFs deliberately stripping the fruit on my side.

Just to add, they are the best eating apples I have had.

We have a few fruit trees visible from the street and you would be surprised how brazen people are, trespassing on your property to steal the harvest. It's quite incredible. We've had people come in pairs with ladders. Obviously if we're home we tell them to clear off but sometimes we just come home to the aftermath.

When the tree sheds its leaves, I bet the neighbours are happy to let you have those! It really is massively cheeky and rude to take the fruit from your side.

@ImAvingOops You seem determined to misinterpret my level of anger!
I am on good terms with the neighbours, they brought some apples round to me and said please help yourself, so there is nothing to suggest they are cross about the situation.

It is really obvious that my side has been stripped but their side is still loaded with fruit and I am mildly irritated and curious about what happened.

I am leaning more towards a random CF tbh. It must be really annoying those of you where people are blatantly stealing your produce.

Well I have heard that low-hanging fruit tends to get picked first.

It must be the same person who took the blackberries from another poster's drive, on stage two of crumble ingredient gathering.

Any Mumsnetters with cows or wheat growing better watch out.

Can you not just say to neighbour my DS ran into someone in our garden picking fruit off your tree. He didn't think to say anything as he thought I must have known. He said she was perfectly pleasant but a
bit strange- any ideas?

Have you tried penguin bollards?

Mystery solved!

It was a random CF off the street. I wish I had the brass neck!

How did you find out?!

I would ask your neighbour if they know who may have come onto your garden to pick the fruit.

If not, it’s not their fault, you may wish to consider getting the tree cut back.

Ha, how do you know it was a randomer? Have you spoken to your neighbours?
