Shout out to @pigletjohn but also I know there are others out there so I'm grateful for any advice.

We just saw a patch of damp inside - last rain was about a week ago and wall is dry-ish but clearly damp up by the ceiling. So we had a look outside and found this (pic below). Who fixes this kind of problem? The chimney is external and the upper part was removed at least a decade ago with the roofing redone. We did have some storm damage earlier in the year, a couple of feet along the roof to the corner part and had someone out to do the repair. We redecorated this room a year ago. It was wall papered so it's possible this isn't new, looking at the pic it doesn't look fresh. Who should we get out to fix the external bit do you think?

I would go for a roofer. Builders might do it too but I suspect they will be busy with bigger jobs.

roofer 100%

Seek quote inc vat/materials etc, see what they say, don't say anyhting.

if you think the price is good go for it if you feel its steep seek 2nd quote same way - keep lips zipped let them tll you what they think it is

It is very diffuclt to get a decent /honest roofer but there some as we had one for 30 years now retired.

I sold my house back in May and had a similar issue. The buyers asked me to fix which I agreed to. Cost me around £800.

Possibly the gutter is at fault. There seems to be a joint above the wet patch. Borrow some binoculars or a drone or ladder to see if the joint has come apart or the gutter is choked.

Watch it during rain.

Could cost more or less.
It could cost as little as 150
We don't know the cost as I suggested poss get two roofers and ask for a quote and why this happened and what to fix.

Thanks for this, I've only just seen it and it's such a shame as we had a good rain yesterday. Expecting another tomorrow so we will check, I think we have a pair of binoculars!

If it is the gutter would it still be a roofer that I need?

Still a roofer if it's the gutter - we had a similar problem!

Thank you!
