Oh wow, I'm glad it wasn't too complicated to get a replacement for the table!

We're promised much activity this week, which means the next valuation for payment the following week will probably be huge. We have all the new windows and doors being installed, first fix plumbing and the set up for the UFH installation, plus plastering and the scaffolding going up for the roof repairs. Oh and the removal of the gas supply!

SheriffCallie · 28/11/2022 09:56

Plumstone, that’s rubbish about the table but it sounds like it was resolved as easily as these things can be. Glad your brother was successful with the shelf hanging, agree better to know after as the tension would have been unbearable.

We are at a similar stage of shopping for furniture, and struggling, because we need new ‘everything’, for open plan kitchen- dining -lounge-snug, and it needs to all flow together. We bit the bullet, and bought a dining table & chairs and a big sofa yesterday, so at least that narrows our focus for the rest of the lounge seating, and the accent seating in the snug.

Riding, that’s loads happening this week! Hope
all goes well.
When I left this morning, the roofer had arrived and was striping tiles off the section where old and new meet. And the builder was saying that they would leave the demolition of the external walls until the extension was fully sealed (roof, windows and sliders). Which I think will happen this side of Xmas, but demolition may be Jan? Which would
leave us with a kitchen over Xmas, helpfully.

QueenOfTheMetaverse · 28/11/2022 10:01

that's good that they were so helpful @plumstone . Sounds like you are very close to the end now. Looking at colour schemes is the best bit I think - do you have anything in mind?

I double checked all the costings this weekend and luckily we are only a tiny bit over what I had originally forecast but the contingency fund is all gone. I am hoping that as most of the structural work is nearly there, that is ok but I think we will have to cross fingers for the next 6 months!

GardensandGrandDesigns · 28/11/2022 13:42

Hi @plumstone, we need a photo please of your lovely shower room. I have an ensuite, bathroom and downstairs loo to do next year so inspo needed! Glad it's going well and broken table is being delivered before Christmas

We have snagging going on here this afternoon. Last carpentry stuff delivered today ahead of Wednesday and stuff back from storage on Thu!

I treated myself to a German mop from JL now we have wood floors. I can't afford a professional deep clean so expensive microfiber mop instead!

Also decided on setting plaster for our bedroom.

plumstone · 28/11/2022 14:05

@GardensandGrandDesigns here you go!! starting to think that I should have taken the floor tiles onto the wall behind the mirror - still have a couple of boxes of the floor ones left - but will need to haul them out the cupboard under the stairs and have a measure, not at the moment, but maybe early next year.

@SheriffCallie definitely - so glad he told me after!!!

@QueenOfTheMetaverse - Thinking of F&B Hardwick white for the walls, Rustoleum Steamed Milk on the ceiling and woodwork, and then a neutral carpet, Want to master the art of layering pattern with regards to curtains, cushions, rug and sofas - but that may take some time and trawling of Pinterest before I take the plunge!

WIth regards to depp cleaning. I didn't hire anyone in. But did a room at a time, starting with the bedroom, so that at least each night I slept somewhere clean and dust free. 2 months in, I think I am at the end of it - but for the first few weeks, There were a lot of buckets of hot soapy water, and vacuuming!

SheriffCallie · 28/11/2022 15:26

It’s gorgeous!! Fantastic to see things looking ‘finished’.

RidingMyBike · 28/11/2022 18:21

Oooh that looks lovely!

Not so good here. Got summoned to the site today as the builder had been doing damp readings on various floors and several sections are damp - the original house is fine, but where idiot former owner extended wasn't done properly. Builder has suggested laying a liquid damp proof course. We're doing UFH and screed anyway.

Anyone any idea how much this might cost or had to have it done? Builder is getting it costed this week but we're worried!

Yes us! Think it was called Wakol the liquid dpm that our flooring people recommended. It was about 600 pounds for 49sqm extension, entrance hall, office and corridor. It is so easy to just roller on and should take no time at all. Think it's good to have particularly if you are having wood flooring on top.

RidingMyBike · 28/11/2022 20:20

Oooh that's encouraging, I was envisaging it might be in the £1000s! Thank you! I like the idea of knowing it's then definitely done.

We also have what the builder describes as 'the most bodged chimney' he's ever seen which he's quoted for fixing. It was identified on survey with binoculars but was a lot worse once they actually got up there to have a look. Need to get the other half of our semi on board with getting it fixed now!

Not like I've got anything else to do ATM!

nomoneytreehere · 29/11/2022 10:39

Washing machines and tumble dryers being installed today. Then i just need to finish painting the units (sulking room pink) and get the worktop people back to drill the hole for the tap get the plumber back to fit the tap, paint the walls and the utility is done!

GardensandGrandDesigns · 29/11/2022 13:51

The kitchen fitter rang me yesterday to ask if he could come back tomorrow. Silly question! Hob is now in and he is putting in our integrated fridge and freezer. It will take all day so he will be back Monday. Thought we might be finished this week but sadly not!

nomoneytreehere · 29/11/2022 17:53

Just wrote a really long post and lost it. Anyhow, a few pictures. Still have to finish painting the kitchen.......

Hugely frustrated with perrin and rowe as still no update on the
missing tap.

Littlessweepy · 29/11/2022 18:57

Oh that is also so beautiful. Am loving all the kitchen inspo pics lately. That is probably the closest to my colour scheme and choices @nomoneytreehere so great to see!

nomoneytreehere · 29/11/2022 19:07

Thank you @Littlessweepy. Its pompeian ash on the island and slaked lime deep on the units. I haven't done the top coats yet - this is just 2 coats of primer.

Would love to see yours later!!

Littlessweepy · 29/11/2022 19:22

I’m a while away yet ☹️ external wall should come down this week to open up to extension. This is it last week post rip out 😀.

Littlessweepy · 29/11/2022 19:35

@nomoneytreehere I’m very impressed you are painting the kitchen yourself. Is it HMKOC?

Willitbeworthit · 29/11/2022 19:35

@nomoneytreehere your kitchen looks amazing, so nice to see the end product, after what must be months of work!

We are making good progress. Walls are being built and we've moved into our temporary kitchen. The external walls will be coming down soon too @Littlessweepy, it's about to get dusty!

nomoneytreehere · 29/11/2022 19:52

Yes, its hmkoc but someone (not me) messed up the height of the window and as i wanted the worktop to run in we have had to raise the height so it has a different plinth. Was very cross about a fortnight ago but have calmed down now. Yes, am painting it myself. I osmoed the insides as we were quoted £800 plus vat for that. That was so easy and didn't take long - i got my kids to help with that.

I'm painting the units in little green (the quotes were all around £4k plus vat) for that and that is for colour matched paint whereas I am using the real thing. 2 coats of primer and 2 of top coat. I haven't done any top coat yet as the carpenters were still faffing around until this morning. Its actually quite easy and very therapeutic. I need to give it a final soft sand and then will use a foam
roller for the top coat. It is time consuming to do it well though.

I didn't want a sprayed manufacturered finish but have been very careful not to get brush marks. Also, my friend who had hers sprayed has chips already a year on abd you can't touch it up whereas woth handpainted you can.

I'm doing the utility in farrow and ball. I don't like their paint as much as little green which is lovely to apply. F&b feels stickier.

Your kitchen looks so calm and tranquil. You must be so pleased it is lovely!

We've had our hob installed today with the ducting but not wired in yet. Integrated fridge and freezer also in and they are so nice! Carpenters hopefully here tomorrow.

LivingInaBuildingSite · 29/11/2022 21:53

Impressed by the painting, I used to do diy stuff but have lost any enthusiasm for it now.

painter guy still here….

has oiled the new doors, has mostly stripped the old front door, smells horrible! Hope it will be worth the days he’s spending on it.

no sign of guys to install the glass railing bits…

no sign of old window coming home…

nomoneytreehere · 30/11/2022 00:03

@LivingInaBuildingSite i didn't want to do any painting either. But we are nearly £100k over budget and i have to cut back some costs. Luckily i'm quite enjoying it!!

NewHouseNewMe · 30/11/2022 07:03

Gorgeous kitchen @nomoneytreehere ! My island colour is very similar too.

OP posts:
Baxdream · 30/11/2022 08:09

We'll be painting ours too. Of course I'd rather not but it's a way to cut costs and the quotes were insane!

Beautiful kitchen! Love the colour scheme

plumstone · 30/11/2022 09:36

Love the colour scheme, I can relate in regards to the window height, and worktop run, I really should have had the windows a smidge higher, and closer to the French doors, then I could have had the more work top, and a few more base unit cupboards. Ah well - next time!!!

My electricians arrived yesterday, and completed all the testing for the compliance certificate, which means their sign off should arrive shortly and then I can get the completion certificate done, and all the paperwork signed off.

Spending today mentally spending money I don't have on Christmas Decorations, trying to work out how to get what I want, on a budget that is more lemonade than champagne!! Christmas is all about aesthetics right!!! DF keeps telling me, not to worry about it, and just enjoy what I have and all the space, apparently it doesn't need twinkly lights and a colour co-ordinated theme throughout the ground floor. He is completely right, however also completely delusional, I want it all to look perfect. Ce la vie!!

Whoever it was upthread whose painters found F&B sticky - mine were the same, and found Rustoleum, Little Green & Valspar much better. Their favourite was Lick, they raved about it, really non splatter, and the coverage was exceptional. Subtly advised that maybe finding non F&B for the rest of the house!!

Hope everyone has a fabulous day!!
