Hello

We are first time buyers mortgage done, searches done paperwork signed, there are 3 houses in the chain.

we are 9 weeks in, which I know is still early days, by the EA we have been told that there are outstanding enquiries at top of the chain, and that the seller is still retaining half the land on his property and selling half! this does not sound like a simple thing that will be resolved soon, I'm not very optimistic, when I spoke to the solicitor last week she mentioned enquires but said nothing to worry about should only be a few weeks, i feel like the EA and solicitors are singing off different hymn sheets, at this point should I be liaising with my solicitor or just the esatate agent or both?!

here is the tricky part, I am due to give birth in November, our mortgage offer expires jan, I didn't declare my pregnancy to the broker, I read online that you don't have to and being honest thought we would be in before the baby, so if they want proof of recent pay slips again then there is going to be an issue because my pay will be less, I know some lenders take a letter from employer stating your return etc but so I feel like the whole thing is going to collapse on us really... mortgage is with barclays not sure if anyone else has one with them and extended with no issues

i know people can't help much because all circumstances differ but any friendly advice would be great, finding this quite stressful all new to us

Thank you

You should be talking directly to your solicitor and then you’ll be able to find out when the rest of the chain aims to complete

Talk to your solicitor. EAs usually seem to be clueless, are overly optimistic about what remains to be done and, IME, say what they think you want to hear rather than anything accurate. Ours told us several things that weren't true!

I expected to already be in my new home before my full pay stopped but my buyer dragged everything out for months longer than expected.
Barclays told me a letter from my employer would suffice while I was on maternity leave. It needed to confirm when I was returning and how much my salary would be. Getting stuff like that from my employer is a pain in the arse so I ended up going back to work early to get the full pay payslips. It was a further 4mths before the house completed 🙄.
