Shower over bath without a screen

We're about to redo our bathroom. Probably only going to stay in this house for a few more years so I have one eye on what a buyer will be looking for.

At the moment we have a shower over the bath (the sort that can be attached to the wall or used as a handheld). I tend only to use it as a handheld to rinse my hair but not as a proper shower and DH doesn't use it at all.

DH is therefore keen not to have any sort of shower screen or curtain by the bath as he finds them annoying, and for how we use the bath it's not necessary. I'm thinking that we could have the shower set up as a handheld by the bath but with a bracket on the wall so that it could be used as a shower. Then when we come to sell, we can stick it up in the bracket to show that it could be used as a shower. Noone is going to be put off a house because it doesn't have a shower curtain or screen, surely?

(I am possibly over-thinking this.)

Could you get a rail fixed up while the tiler is there, and just add a curtain when you come to sell?

Alternatively, our shower curtain is a cheepo plastic job that is only held up by pressure. It's survived guests and 2 kids.

Do you have a separate shower somewhere in the house ?

If you do then I wouldn’t worry at all. Wouldn’t even put up a wall bracket tbh since you won’t use it.

If you have no shower at all then I think for resale you do need to set it up as a proper shower over bath. It would put me off hugely if I looked round a house to buy and they’d got a shiny new bathroom but no shower.

Yes we have a proper shower cubicle in another bathroom. Thanks, both.

You can get tension poles that are spring loaded and non-permanent so when you come to sell the easiest thing would be to put one of these up (a good quality one) and hang a shower curtain, then you aren’t even making holes in the wall. Good ones won’t fall down!

Unless it’s generally a project, I think most buyers would want to see that the house is ‘normal’. Even if you know you could easily fit a rail after moving in, it’s another small hassle and it just makes a better impression to have all the normal fixtures in place so people know they can move in and all the basics are in working order. So I would definitely put a bracket on the wall for the shower head.

We have a full shower cubicle in our en suite.

In the main bathroom we have a full size bath, a very modern mixer tap with a shower attachment. Our shower attachment sits on a wall clip so can be used either way. Our bathroom is only half tiled and this shower arrangement works brilliantly without a screen or curtain, (like your DH I hate them.)

We only had both bathrooms completely remodeled last year. No issues at all with the arrangement you suggest so long as you stick with a high quality mixer tap. (I think a cheaper type would be less stable and spray water everywhere. Ours is fantastic and offers a very powerful, direct spray.)
