BT van and worker outside property

I do not know why I am suspecting the openreach BT van parked outside with a worker working alone. I am wondering if he is just someone trying to hack into the internet etc in the area or a genuine worker. How does one check if at all there is a way to check

Probably working for the queen

Auntieobem · 08/09/2022 09:24

Are you usually so paranoid?

Clymene · 08/09/2022 09:27

Openreach are the only people who can fit super fast full fibre broadband so that's probably what he's doing. It only needs one person to do it.

And are you ok? Because this seems like a bit of an odd thing to be worrying about.

Confused
DuggeeHugPlease · 08/09/2022 09:35

Definitely a scam. They'll be knocking on your door asking for passwords next.

icelolly12 · 08/09/2022 09:38

Errr what 😂

etulosba · 08/09/2022 09:39

Is there a bank or safety deposit box vault nearby?

It could be a heist. I’ve seen it in films.

FixTheBone · 08/09/2022 09:40

Completely normal.

They could be doing anything from surveying poles, running network tests, or measuring mobile signal strength.

chipsandpeas · 08/09/2022 09:41

its the police, they are on a undercover stakeout

ive watched too much USA crime shows

seethis · 08/09/2022 11:13

to all those you replied and were kind and polite, thanks a bunch.

to those who saw it as a chance to joke and score some points, no thanks.

we all have to be very careful the manner we all respond to people as you never know what people are going through.

yes I know utility workmen are a common thing and usual when all is ok

but when you have been a victim of a very serious crime which is still under investigation by the police and its a large investigation and in fear for your life and that of your children and entire family maybe it might make you paranoid and drive you to the edge.

it does not cost anything to be kind to people and be gentle and think twice before posting things you never know what that person is going through.
your words can drive them over the cliff, help, save or reassure them.
which/what impact do you want to have on a fellow being? good or bad impact-

Think
Be kind, its cost nothing
Thank you

Well, that's a hell of a drip feed! Being kind (??) Is one thing but assuming that a poster is subject to a crime "which is still under investigation by the police and its a large investigation and in fear for your life and that of your children and entire family" is a bit of a jump...

Londonnight · 08/09/2022 11:17

They regularly park outside my house. There is a BT green box thing on our street which they access to upgrade broadband. Never really given it a thought before.

I think the Open reach engineers are one of the few that seem to nearly always be working solo. Sometimes there will be one dealing with the 'hole in the ground' with a team mate posted outside the open telecoms cabinet way up the road, but not always.

If you are really worried, you could probably ring Open reach to check.

If you have specific issues, it would be a good idea to make them clear in your opening post.

You only have yourself to blame if you found some of the responses not to your liking.
