Where do you look for rental property?

If searching for a house to rent where do you look? Letting agent has only used one particular site for ours. But worried it’ll get overlooked.

Anyone?

If it's not Rightmove that's not good.

Tellmewhatyoureallythink · 06/09/2022 23:11

Needs to be on Rightmove.

RampantIvy · 06/09/2022 23:12

Zoopla. Local Facebook pages.

HairyFeline · 06/09/2022 23:13

The rentals on our local Facebook buy/sell sites are always responded to by 50+ people within hours.
like a previous poster said, Rightmove is the biggie.

Lucyintheskywithrubies · 06/09/2022 23:16

It is not on RM :/ Why would they not use it?!

OP posts:
Saynotothefishtank · 06/09/2022 23:34

It should be on RM if it isn’t your agent is lazy / going for a cheapskate option.

I never look anywhere else.

Lucyintheskywithrubies · 06/09/2022 23:56

God I am worried now. Is it possible to list on RM myself?

OP posts:
Moonchild18 · 06/09/2022 23:58

Zoopla and set up email notifications for the area you want

Moonchild18 · 06/09/2022 23:59

Oh wait, sorry I miss read 🙈 I tend to stick with zoopla when looking for a property but do use rightmove occasionally.

Lucyintheskywithrubies · 07/09/2022 00:00

@Moonchild18 well that has made me feel slightly better haha

Applebark · 07/09/2022 00:00

As a renter I'd look everywhere because I know not everyone lists on all the sites. But I'd look at these in this order.
Rightmove
On the market
Zoopla
OpenRent
Faceache

Lucyintheskywithrubies · 07/09/2022 00:13

Thanks. I have always only used RM personally that is why I am worried.

There was a time when estate agents could only list with either Rightmove or Zoopla - both portals said that if you listed with the competitor, you couldn’t list with them. So, if you listed with Rightmove, you couldn’t list with Zoopla and vice versa. Not sure if that’s still true but might be a factor.

Tellmewhatyoureallythink · 07/09/2022 09:42

OnTheMarket didn’t have a similar restrictions I seem to remember, so you’d get listings with either RM or Zoopla and OnTheMarket.

Lucyintheskywithrubies · 07/09/2022 19:31

Thanks didn’t know that.

I am a landlord with just a couple of properties - when I have a vacancy I advertise on gumtree. I always have quite a few replies. Good luck finding your new home xx

Lindy2 · 08/09/2022 17:11

Give them a week. Demand is high in most areas so 1 week should be enough to have had several viewings.

If you don't get a steady flow or interested people then question why not.

A good quality rental at an appropriate price should take only a matter of days to secure a tenant.

Lucyintheskywithrubies · 08/09/2022 21:23

@Lindy2 this is what is worrying me. It has been on for 2.5 weeks and there has been one viewing. They keep saying it’s more high end so will take longer but it’s not overpriced and is a three bed family home. Another one on the street was on for much more and was snapped up. It’s causing me stress as at the moment we are paying for two houses (we are renting elsewhere).

OP posts:
Lindy2 · 08/09/2022 22:48

That doesn't seem right at all.

I think you should look at changing your agents. One viewing in two and a half weeks seems ridiculous. The marketing they're using isn't working.

To me it would be ringing alarm bells. They're either a very poor agency or they are manipulating the rent downwards so someone they know can rent it from you below market price.

Move on from them before you're stuck with them.

WhoInvitedHer · 10/09/2022 16:11

I have some rentals and when vacant list on OpenRent myself and I choose the option for it to go onto RightMove. I don’t use a letting agent at all.

RidingMyBike · 10/09/2022 20:01

The house we're currently renting took 2.5 months to find tenants (landlord bought in June, we moved in in September) but they had plenty of viewings. But lots of people failed to pass the referencing check.

Lucyintheskywithrubies · 10/09/2022 20:27

@RidingMyBike thanks - seems like we are not been getting viewings.

OP posts:
RidingMyBike · 10/09/2022 20:55

Is the agent limiting viewings at all? Could you get a friend to ring up and pretend they want to arrange one to see what happens?

We nearly didn't manage to get a viewing of our current house as could only view at weekends and the landlord was using the house as a weekend base so didn't want viewings then! Which was a bit daft as it's an expensive tenancy and needs two people in work to pay it!

giveitawhirl · 11/09/2022 12:19

I think it depends on the area you live as well. Round here there’s barely anything on Rightmove, OnTheMarket is the go-to, with Zoopla a close second.
