Kitchen worktops - laminate

We are doing up our house on a budget. We have a beautiful hand crafted solid oak kitchen which will be fitting ourselves (second hand).
For the worktops we think we will probably use laminate, as we can fit it ourselves and it will work out much cheaper.
Are there any other options we could consider? (Not wood because the cupboards are wood).
If you were buying a far amount of laminate (we are going to need around 14 metres) where would you go? I was thinking Wickes.
Thank you for your help xxx

We've got a compact laminate which is great, it feels cooler (?) to the touch which brings me a little bit closer to the quartz we couldn't afford!

I have used worktop-express.co.uk and have been very happy with them

We have just looked at laminate and compact laminate and the compact laminate was coming in so much more expensive for us sadly. Then the fitting price as well as the fitter said it eats cutting blades when you are fitting the compact laminate.

As for suppliers look at worktops direct or diy kitchens as well as the normal places.

Worktop express are very good.

However if you you joints or corners then I’d highly recommend getting a kitchen fitter to fit the worktop for you.
You’ll spend years looking at it that a saving of around £2-300 is not worth it.
An uneven worktop gets worse over the years.

Thank you all. I shall have a look at worktop express. Has anyone used Ikea for worktops?

ours is from DIY kitchens

Some friends are going through an enormous headache with IKEA worktops - they insisted the worktops would be cut on site but they arrived pre cut...in the wrong size! This was in May and new worktops arriving this week. We used worktop express and our kitchen fitter fit and cut the worktop. We preferred compact as we wanted an undermount sink but PP is right it's more expensive to buy and to fit

I know it isn't cool, but i love ours. It simply doesn't stain. Curry sauce comes right up. Sometimes a tea stain requires a little cif but that's it. I can't remember the make.

You can’t go wrong with worktop express - brilliant service , products and prices

I have Duropal, solid surface kitchens were very good, i over ordered due to fitter measuring wrong 1st time ( before items were delivered) , they corrected the order and refunded me no issues www.solidsurfacekitchens.co.uk/duropal-abruzzo-colore-laminate-worktops-s68048-quadra-profile---fg-58226-p.asp
Still very new, so hard to say how it will stand the rest of time, but it looks good.

@bravotango I’ve heard not great things about IKEA worktops which is why although my kitchen is ikea I got the worktops elsewhere.
