Fireplace hearth - light or dark?

Looking for advice on hearth finishes.
If we went for a light coloured one will we be forever cleaning it?
I prefer the overall look as we're having a limestone mantel installed but have been advised to go for a dark hearth in grey granite or slate.
We're having a wood burner.
Anyone with a light hearth regret their decision??

More importantly, make sure that whatever stone you choose is heat proof; underneath the stove gets very hot. The difference between the high and low temperature can cause the stone to crack. I’ve had slate hearths for wood burners which have been fine.

I’d get dark with a wood burner.

I have light and yes, regret. It's chipped from the grate, the chips show, there is constantly black streaks on it from the burnt coals. Mine isn't a wood burner though. DS has a wood burner and they put Stone flags under theirs, looks lovely but can still get dirty, at least the dirt isn't too visible.

Thanks all, appreciated
I think we'll go for the slate option but will check regarding heat proofing.

Yes dark. We have a black slate with our wood burner. Cannot imagine it been light. Hides a lot of the ash that comes out when you clean.

We’ve had light stone, and black granite both were fine, if you have a porous material make sure you seal it properly and there will be no problem keeping it clean.

neither of the ones we have had get even warm below the fire but both are on stands with log stores underneath. The one we have now you can put your hand anywhere around the bottom when it’s on full whack…… it’s designed for all the heat to come out the front and top, in fact the door handle and air control are made of a plastic/composite and are completely fine.
