Non standard home insurance

We've got a steel framed house and have lived here for 4 years, one claim for £4000 for escape of water in 2019.

Our home insurance renewal is £900! Can anyone recommend insurers please? Normal comparison sites don't work for non standard construction.

Thanks in advance!

Hey OP, sorry I can't help with your question re insurance. With the rise of non-standard houses, it's a bit rubbish that comparison sites don't work for you...

Was just wondering, how do you find living in a steel-framed house? We're about to go ahead with a modular extension that has a metal frame - it's not just because it's a bit cheaper, it's also the timescales involved for the build.

Sorry to hijack your post, just wondered if you had any words of wisdom about living in a non-standard build?

It's fine, no different really from a non steel house except that converting the loft would be a PITA.

We live in a steel framed house and never had an issue with getting insurance. We were with Halifax for years and they didn't care about the steel frame as long as it was concrete or brick walls

Really @stormelf? I thought you weren't covered without specialist insurance?

That is what we thought, the first two years of living here we took out specialist insurance but when we went for our mortgage renewal Halifax asked why we were paying out so much in insurance and said that they cover most types of construction but not wooden construction apparently.

You've just saved me £400 a yearly, thank you!

@DanielTheGhostGangbanger its just occured to me you're probably asking about things like insulation etc. It's absolutely fine, warmest and quietest house we've ever had! I love it.
