Window film insulation

Can anyone tell me their experience with window film insulation? I'm thinking it would be a good idea for us for this winter. I just want it for the insulation aspect, but don't want it to cut out any light. Is it easy to fit yourself? Any recommendation on a make?

I have used it in several houses. It definitely makes a difference. Best thing is to seal gaps in the window with rolled up newspaper and tape over all the gaps with masking tape before you put the window film on. That way you have a trapped layer of air rather than just some film which is stopping the drafts. Last time o got some it was from b and q but that was a while ago.

Thick interlined curtains are also very good at keeping the heat in.

I've put it up in our house, as an additional 3rd layer on top of double glazing. It works well and is easy to put up but stop heating before you think you need to. The film retains the heat and keeps strinking afterwards so we have a couple of windows where the film's slightly too small for the sticky tape as it kept shrinking after I'd heated it. Worth doing though.
