Gloss paint recommendations please

I’m looking for recommendations for a white gloss paint that doesn't smell so much. We have been using Dulux but the smell makes me have a headache. We tried a low odour gloss once before but it was really thick and difficult to paint with and has gone yellow. Are there any out there that don’t smell so much or do I just have to put up with the smell.? Thanks

Try Bedec Aqua. I've found it works well. As it's waterborne, it stays white with absolutely no yellowing at all.

Here it is.

Thank you so much. Looks like water based is the way to go and it will be easier to clean the brushes too 🙂🙂

Use satin instead.

All gloss smells as it is oil based so more chemicals. Try a satin paint that's water based, plus gloss always goes yellow after a few years xx

Sorry, but that is nonsense! It's only oil-based paints that have an overpowering smell. Modern waterborne gloss paint is not the same as the old fashioned gloss. It does have some smell to it, of course, but it's the same as a satin paint would have.

In addition, waterborne paint does not turn yellow, as was the case with the old-fashioned gloss paints.

@Dodie66 The Bedec paint that I mentioned above is very good. I used it to paint all the woodwork about 6 years ago and it still looks as good as new. If you do decide on satin, there are plenty of good water based paints to choose from. Dulux is good, as is Bedec Aqua satin . But for gloss, I think the Bedec is the best one. It's the only one I tried that actually looks like "proper gloss" and is reasonably easy to apply.

The main thing to remember with waterborne paint is that you can't "play around" with it. You need to get it on the surface quickly with minimal amount of brushing. Don't over brush!
Preparation is vital for all painting work. Wash any dirt off, then either lightly sand the surface or paint with a good quality, grippy primer before applying the top coat. I usually use Zinsser 123 as a primer.

Here is the Zinsser primer mentioned above.

Good luck with your project. Happy painting! 😊
