Talk to me about Quooker taps (or similar hot water taps)

I was at a barbecue at the weekend with my husband and used a Quooker tap for the first time. I was really impressed with it and was thinking how wonderful it would be to do away with the kettle and literally have boiling water on tap.

Now I know the price to buy is high and the costs to run are similar to a kettle but would really like one when we move house in October. My husband thinks they're a gimmick and seriously not worth the money. I know there are similar taps on the market that are cheaper but have no idea what these are like to use or maintain.

So mumsnetters, talk to me about yours - good or bad experiences! Get one or don't bother?

Mine is a genuine quooker tap and system that I have had issues with. The kitchen company didn’t warn me limescale would cause issues. I have had to had the unit under the sink replaced twice. The first time it was under warranty the last time I paid.

Just had a look at the Qettle website. Like the options for different taps and finishes (although these are extras). Are Qettles installed for free like Quookers?

Is the filtered cold water softened at all? Or is it just as hard as tap water? We are considering a quooker (or zip?) for our first house in the UK. We have shipped our coffee machine and I’m concerned about limescale… the water was soft where we lived before!

LOVE my Quooker! Used it every day for the past 8 years, serviced it once and never had any problems despite living in a hard water area. Makes your life a little bit easier in a very pleasing way.

We have a Blanco Evol-S hot and filter, I LOVE it. My mum owns a kitchen company so I’ve tried many many hot water taps and this is my favourite by far. It does take up a lot of space under the sink mind.

I also have an insinkerator for most food waste, these 2 gadgets are probably the most life changing and loved things I’ve ever bought. That’s quite tragic now I say it 😂

Our plumber did ours as it was part of a full kitchen refurb but I believe they are very easy to install so could do it yourself.

We have a quooker cube and love it. I was skeptical and kept the kettle, but we basically never used it again. Also have a large ceramic sink and have had no issues.

Ours is actually in the utility, which is off the kitchen, as I wanted a particular kitchen tap. We do have a whole house water softener. The cold water in the kitchen is bypassed, but I can't remember if the quooker is or not.

I've have a Lamona 3 in 1 love it. Nice cold filtered water and I can set the boiler at the temperature I want.

We’ve had one for five years, serviced once, and that’s in a very hard water area.

My DH was also very dubious but came round almost immediately. If I go to other peoples’ houses now, I find it odd you have to wait for a kettle to boil.

ShirleyJackson · 25/08/2022 22:41

I love ours. It does fizzy cold water as well.

We inherited ours when we bought our house seven years ago. It broke for the first time earlier this year and my husband has found it easy enough to repair himself from parts off eBay. It was limescale in some internal part I think.
It wasn't seven years old, at a guess it was more like twelve.
I love it and wouldn't like to go back to kettles so I was very relieved when he said he could fix it.

Bought a house with one fitted in Holland years ago - loved it and have had one in every house ever since.
I’ve had the current for 4 years - no problems and we love it.

mrsbyers · 25/08/2022 23:15

I was very sceptical about ours but if we moved I would absolutely buy another - we have a quettle

so useful when cooking and even cleaning things like greasy oven trays and pots

demokitty · 25/08/2022 23:22

I have got a ceramic sink and a quooker tap. Sink still looks like new. Both the tap and the sink are a year and a half old. Not had any problems. Someone mentioned limescale but we have a water softener for the whole house and the quooker also has a filter on it. We got ours serviced after a year and they changed the filter and checked it over. I don't think the service is essential though as you can change the filter yourself.

Ours also does chilled still water and chilled sparking water. You have to change the co2 cylinder every now and then for the sparkling water.

We have an insinkerator one which was much cheaper - I think about £500 and we did have a problem with it but it was repaired FOC under a 10 year warranty. I wouldn't go back to a kettle...
