Hi! Thinking of moving to Chelmsford from London, looking to buy a property. I’m not familiar with Chelmsford and keen to know more about it. Is it safe? Any issues?
Thanks!

I grew up there, avoid Melbourne area around kings road, the athletics stadium! The rest is nice enough, I would love back if I could, good schools too. Don't believe them they will build the new station at bealiuea, they've been saying that for 25 odd years so I would personally avoid that area as its very crowed.

Thank you! I was thinking of the Beaulieu area but will consider other areas. Would you say it’s a safe place @Amijustagrump
Im trying to find a commuter belt town but most (e.g Surrey) are so expensive. This is a bit more within our budget, but as we’re hoping to live there for at least the next ten years I’m trying to learn more about Chelmsford.

Yeah safe enough, I'm happy to go out there of an evening! I would look at great baddow/Sandon/chelmer village on the outskirts more than the centre

That’s great advice. Thank you :)

Springfield, Chancellor Park area is very nice, Danbury nice but expensive

Broomfield is nice

I grew up in London and now live near Chelmsford (somewhere mentioned above) and agree, it's a great place to live. Chelmsford has less character than Colchester (but that's pretty much Suffolk!) Or Maldon (no railway, less secondary school choice). Overall, I'm very happy here-- the best part is the number of good schools.

Thank you all! Chelmer village is on list. :)

Chelmer village is nice, Chancellor Park school is excellent if that is a consideration

I have recently moved to Chelmsford from London. It’s a beautiful place to live for families and singles. A much more relaxed calm pace of life. I’m between Moulsham street and Chelmsford Cemetery. I think the area is called Waterhouse. I prefer being super close to the city centre as it’s easy to walk everywhere and there is no need for a car or public transport. Central Park is super close too and it’s huge! Great if you have a dog or children! I love the central location as it means it’s super convenient having all the amenities like the retail parks, restaurants and supermarkets on your doorstep too. I can walk to Chelmsford train station in just under 15 minutes to hop on a train to London. John Lewis in Chelmsford closes at 6pm here and not at 9pm like London. It’s also much smaller so not as much choice. Late night shopping best done in London I think. There are so many beautiful Victorian terrace cottages here as well as detached and semi detached houses too. What’s your budget? Are you looking for period charm or modern? Garage or on st Parking? What are your priorities in terms of must haves in a house? Location , local amenities, garden size, garage etc? We are all different so what suits you many not suit me.

@BeehiveLane needs quite a lot of work and modernising. Also quite a busy road I would say.
