How big a job is it to install hob extractor hood?

I viewed a house and the kitchen is brand new but has no extractor hood above the hob which is annoying. I want to move into a place without having work to do as I have a baby and starting a new job at the time. Problem is it also seems to be positioned under the stairs (see photo) does anyone know how big a job this would be to add? I'm clueless 😅

Presumably you want one that's vented to the outside? It looks from the photo that hood will be on an external wall. The question is then whether the exhaust will be to a side return or your back garden. If it's the later, it should be an easy job.

Who fitted the kitchen?

New kitchens are supposed to have an extractor fan
It's not that clear if replacement kitchens need one

@BringOnSummerHolidays it backs on to the side wall of the building.

@Digimoor I have no idea who did the kitchen it would have made sense to install one on the first place! They've made it look nice but it's impractical

Only reason I mentioned if it’s the side is because I don’t know if there are regulations about having exhausts out onto neighbours garden. I know there are for boilers.

But the builder just need to drill a largish hole for the pipe, connect to your cooker and add a vent cover on the outside. You will need power on the inside too.

You could install a wall mounted Xpelair type fan - slightly bigger version of a bathroom fan. This would get around the stairs problem. As long as it's not to far from the hob it will do a reasonable job of ventilating a small room.

Thanks both! I just wanted to make sure placing an offer won't cause a huge headache but it sounds like I should be ok as long as I factor in the work and cost. The side of the building faces the property driveway. The neighbours building (extension) is next to that but not that close. They don't have a window or garden adjacent at least. I still just wonder why they didn't add it before!

More complicated might be finding an extractor which will fit into that space, it looks a slightly awkward shape.
