Anyone removed a smart meter successfully?

Hi all - anyone had success removing a smart meter from their house?

I'm buying a new build with my husband and the only option is to have a smart meter installed. My husband wants it gone but is worried we won't be able to get it swapped out. We don't mind paying for it to be gone, he's just worried it'll take ages and/or not be possible. Please help me find some success stories!

Can I just say that my smart meter is really great - the initial roll out was a problem as they didn't work if you change suppliers but that is not the case now and I suspect the over charging was with the older version. I got mine about 5 years ago. My bills are the lowest they have ever been - I have a tariff for charging my car over night - and use it for running the dishwasher etc. My supplier Octopus also regularly offers free electricity on windy days.

No one is asking that tho… are they.

it’s been asked how to get one removed - for what ever personal preference.

maybe find a smart meter appreciation thread to post your love of your smart meter

Hi I am in a similar position.

who was your energy supplier ? And what did you do? Did you have to pay ? Was it difficult or pretty straight forward ?

They are very strict on smart meters, as you probably know, they want every home to have 1, so it’s not easy to get it swapped back, but it can be done, I had to give my reason, and yet it still cost me money, I had to cover the cost of the new meter and for them to come and fit it, cost me just over £200, if you want to know the reason I give, it’s going to cost ya, 200 quid ha lol.

Don’t mind paying … but actually … the person who came to move my meter as was too high up for me to reach…. Installed a smart meter without my permission … so I think they have to change it back - that is what I understood . I will keep it posted on here … fingers crossed … don’t mind paying need if gone as it is causing me terrible migraines :(

To update, I had my smart meter removed and replaced with an old style refurbished one - not even a digital one. Was a bit of a faff but got there in the end. Something also quite worrisome occurred but will come back to post all about that once I have lodged a formal complaint.

I also didn’t have to pay.

I would also love to know we have just moved into a new home and are concerned that Smart metres will be used to control demand for energy. As we live in the countryside we cant really go without electricity so really want it removed.

You can actually get it removed and replaced yourself by a gas engineer. Found this out now - there is a website I will post it but if you google meter replacement you will find companies who do it.

the energy companies actually don’t have any right to tell you what meter to have.

So can anyone recommend a company that can remove smart meters?
we have moved into a new home and they have a smart meter installed.
Smart meters transmit intense bursts of non ionising, microwave radiation, 24hrs/day. This radiation is the same kind emitted by mobile phone masts.
i don’t think many would agree to put a mobile mast in their home.
There is no safety data on it at all.
if anyone had managed to remove their smart meter, please share.

We just unplugged ours and gave it back to the company. We're with Octopus no smart meter needed. Just unplug it and find a supplier that doesn't require you to have one.

This is exactly what I'm trying to do but no idea how to go about it. Who can I get to unplug it? All electricians are saying we cant touch it.
Also what happens in the interim period when you're without any meter?

Any advice sincerely appreciated!
