Tree in neighbours garden

Which is a laurel and full of berries, and they are all dropping over my garden. The pigeons nest in it, and they then s**t all over my fence panels.

The tree is at the end of their garden (so their back fence) my garden runs along their back fence, it hangs over into mine, but it's also very high, cuts out a lot of sun in mine too.

I am going to ask (politely) if I can lop the top off, I don't see a problem for them to be honest, but I want to get my ducks in a row, so my question is, do I have any rights to asking if I can do this? ie my garden is a bloody mess with the pigeons s**t and the berries everywhere.

I will do and pay for the work.

@Wombat27A
For heavens sake, hedgehogs don’t live in a Laurel tree! Neither do rabbits. Very few small birds ever nest in them! They greatly prefer deciduous hedges. One unsightly evergreen Laurel is about the same as one unsightly evergreen leylandii. It should NOT be in a garden overhanging another one.

There should of course be shrubs and suitable trees. Broadleaf garden trees support far more wildlife. Most people who want rabbits keep them as pets.

No, it's the new fences with concrete bottoms that cause issues for hedgehogs. They roam widely usually & nowadays they struggle for food, hence the decline in numbers.

Tho I have seen one hedgehog hole in the concrete locally. They can be put in during manufacture. 😁

I agree about fences and hedgehogs but this thread is about a Laurel tree.

Are you sure it's not a Rowan tree? I have loads of laurels in my garden and the pigeons never go in it as it is too dense and they aren't at all treelike in shape. They love my Rowan though and eat all the berries.
