House maintenance between exchange and completion

We have exchanged on our house. The torrential rain yesterday caused a leak in the ceiling of the bay window in the living room and we now have a section of wet carpet and that part of the ceiling is a bit bubbly. The same has happened by the back door. Not large areas but visible (15cm sq?), it's not an insurance job though.

DH said to do nothing but I think we need to get someone in to re-plaster those bits of the ceiling. I'm worried about water marks in the carpet too (it's jute).

Should we tell our buyer? There is still about 5 weeks to go until completion.

can you get a dehumidifier in there and see how bad it looks after 48h? in rented flats, we painted over water marks (caused by above neighbours) with Zinnser and emulsion. in the ideal world any issues causing the leaks would be more my concern as a buyer than the cosmetic impact as I'd probably be factoring some decorating in post purchase, so that is probably more important than appearance.

(that said, all maintenance until completion is your responsibility, and purchasers will expect the property to be as it was on viewing, sans your belongings, at completion)

I'm definitely digging out the dehumidifier and sticking it in the living room. I think the felt roofing on the bay must have a crack. The buyer had a full survey done so I wonder if that came up? She didn't ask us about it.
I disagree with DH and feel we need to make this right. It will be almost six months between accepting the offer and completion (very complicated chain) so the house is not as pristine as it was for the viewings back in March!

I think you should sort it out.

Our vendors were absolute shitheads. We offered in Feb and moved in in May. On completion day we noticed damp on the hall ceiling, that wasn’t there when on viewing, so DH asked about it. She told us it was a leaky pipe, the original builders had fixed it but they’d not got round to painting. The first time I used the shower in the en-suite DH happened to be in the hall and water was coming through the ceiling, hence the damp.

It was a cheap fix, thankfully but it really pissed me off because they were so dishonest. Plus the house was absolutely filthy when we got here so it all left a sour taste in my mouth.
