Put an offer in... Still waiting....

We put an offer in on a property on Tuesday first thing and the vendors still haven't got back with a response.

Does it usually take so long??? Aargh!

My experience is vendors usually take 1-2 days to accept offer

Are they going for B&F?
When we sold earlier this year the EA said to ignore initial offers following viewings (there were lots) and instead they would say to all interested parties that B&F offers were to be submitted by xxx date.

Prior to that we also sold a house last year and there we were (badly) advised by the (useless) EA to accept the first offer which we did the same day.

I think reflecting on the offer overnight is long enough, unless there are several offers on the table.
I’d chase it up with the estate agent to find out the current position. You may be one of several bidders/offerers.

So the situation is the vendors had accepted an offer in May after being on the market for 2 days. It fell through due to the chain collapsing from the buyers end.

It's been back on the market for a couple of weeks. Apparently there is me and another interested party but I don't know if they are putting in an offer as when we went to view, the vendor said they was supposed to be another viewing but they cancelled as they had an offer accepted. So I'm not sure if this is the same one the EA are referring to or if it's a new interest.

I get the feeling it's not the done thing for me to speak to the EA now they're speaking with my conveyancer. I'm in Scotland if that makes a difference.

This estate agent has another property we would view if we didn't get this one. The time is ticking and I'm being left in limbo. We're renting and need to leave as the landlord is moving back so this wait is using up really valuable time that we don't have.

Oh if you’re in Scotland I think it does make a difference. I don’t know anything about the Scottish system so I’ll leave it to someone more knowledgeable to offer further advice.
Good luck with it all

Is there a closing date? Last time I bought (in Scotland) there was no closing date and they got back next morning.

Chase the EA, or get your solicitor to.

Thesehills · 18/08/2022 14:19

I'd call the estate agent to arrange a viewing on the other. You may like the other more and also it should encourage them to come back to you on the offer you've already made. I'd be chasing a bit of feedback now in any case.

Good luck.

Both me and my solicitor have been chasing separately.

I was asked to go slightly higher than my max first thing and I said yes. Still nothing.

I called the EA last thing this evening and they're "still considering it"?? They asked me to go higher and I agreed!

It's leaving a bad taste in my mouth now. Have totally gone off it!

I've been advised by a friend to give them a deadline with a time or we're withdrawing. I'll call my solicitor in the morning as I'm not waiting any longer.

We put our offer in on a Saturday and got our offer accepted on the following Wednesday afternoon, they had further viewings and offers then it went to best and final. We moved in January.
