Restoring leaded windows as part of refurb

Has anyone renovated a house with really large leaded windows?

We are doing one now and due to where we are (damp/cold) are doing high end conservation style pvc rather than the timber frames we wanted (basically even expensive new wooden ones rot here now as wood not suited to climate).

the three leaded ones (two small one large) have to be taken out and put into frames. Has anyone done this? Sounds like a nightmare but I love the windows!

I had mine traced and re-made in new frames, they did a great job.

So they were like replicas?

We are renovating a 1930's property and have replaced 40+ windows with double glazed, black aluminum ones. Previous were a random mix of single glazed crittall, wooden sash plus others. I personally didn't think the leaded look from inside would look nice- more prison like and poky- hence going for clear.

We chose aluminium as much thinner than PVC, not plastic looking and more in keeping with the original crittall the house had. Any reason you are keeping the lead?

The glass is an exact replica of the original but in new pvc frames.
