Party wall award when selling

Hello
i am in a mid terrace house and our neighbour has served a party wall notice as they are doing a side return extension.
They will be building up to the boundary and issued a section 6 too as will be excavating (below the levels of our foundations) within 3m of our house.
We are so naive about these things we don’t know if it makes sense to dissent in order to have a surveyor. They have just bought the house so don’t know them at all.
The extra potential reason is we are planning to put our house on the market and wonder if having a surveyor and party wall award in place would be more attractive to a buyer and offer reassurance if they come to view and see a build and scaffolding in our garden etc. Any thoughts or experience would be v welcome! Thanks

One of our neighbours sold during our building works. We were always going to use a surveyor to draw up the award so it was done in a way that the award passes onto the new owner.

We didn't have any issues with the old and new neighbours as they are not attached to us but we are glad it was done by professionals as could go either way when you don't know them.

Whether putting house on market or not, I would definitely recommend having it drawn up by a surveyor and in your case request they do the award so it passes onto the new owner.

I think it would be madness not to have an independent surveyor to act on your behalf! Especially as they're digging down, which is more risky in regards to damage.

We're planning a second extension and have put aside a few thousand to cover our neighbour engaging their own surveyor as part of the Party Wall process.

Definitely have your own surveyor, doubly so if you’re intending to sell between now and the works taking place. It means your buyers will have more protection.

You are all very helpful, thank you. Have asked for appointment of a surveyor and will make sure the award can be passed on to a new owner if we do sell in the meantime.
