We are doing some work on a bungalow before we move in, a small extension a few walls knocked down etc. Wondering if we should look at any energy saving products. Would consider solar panels but believe it can take 10 years to get our money back which is frankly ridiculous. So what should I be considering?

Thank you, I'll have a look at that company.

I doubt the payback on a small solar domestic array of 3.68 kw is as long as ten years now that the electricity prices have shot up.

Insulation, heat pumps, more insulation - underfloor heating so the heat pump works.

If you are starting from scrath nearly you should be able to make it work. Agree with getting someone in to assess it.

Heat pumps and underfloor heating are not really viable retro fit options though. They’re ok if you’re starting from scratch

Not totally starting from scratch most of downstairs and extension will be but there is an upstairs that won't be being touched. Any recommendations on companies to look at it that doesn't cost too much.

I just thought I'd give an update, I contacted someone through this website and made an apointment for today, but they have cancelled as they say they can only advise on retrofit. I've looked as carbon Co op and they anlt advise on retrofit. I'm not sure what the problem is as it's not a new build so Im back to square one.

We're doing a full renovation too. Starting with internal improvements. Powerful and efficient boiler, large and efficient new radiators, plastic piping helps with pressure and retains heat. Full rewire. Good quality external doors replacing drafty old ones. Eventually we will upgrade the windows and move onto solar panels (and battery) when we replace the roof.
