New build worries

Afternoon
we currently live in a rural village, - we have lovely neighbours other side, but are somewhat buffered by ours and their large gardens.
everyone is quiet where we live, as are we.
I am considering moving to a small town a few miles away as I’d like a bit more to do without having to drive.
the only suitable houses for sale at this time are new builds on an actually very nice little estate.
we wouldn’t normally want a new build. We prefer character properties. My DH says that we may not get on with our neighbours in the new build as they might be more towny/noisy etc, as they wanted a new build.
not sure I’m making sense here- basically I don’t want to end up in a street of neighbours with outdoor TVs and hot tubs, is this really more likely in a new build?
just to note, nothing wrong of course with having or wanting these things, it’s just not us.

It could happen anywhere not just in new builds lol. If you don't like noise in gardens I wouldn't be moving to a town. Gardens will be smaller, possibly overlooked and it sounds you like a lot more peace and tranquility. Stay where you are.

What a weird post. I want a new build whenever I’m in a position to buy as they’re more likely to be energy efficient. We’re very quiet and have never heard of an outdoor TV before.

Ok
I know it may come across as weird.

not weird, stay were you are. You will probably hate it. Rent an air b N b in town for a couple of days, give you some idea.

More energy efficient in winter yes, but our old home is perfect for this weather! Our previous home was a newbuild and yes it was a little cheaper to heat, not all that much though to be honest. I think the main thing is that they are closer together and the gardens smaller so you will notice those who want hot tubs and televisions because you will be closer to the noise and less able to escape it. We loved it but struggled to relax in the garden as we could hear all our neighbours conversations so knew they could hear ours. It probably depends how much time you want to be in the garden.

Thank you HappyHappyHermit, that’s really helpful.
My DH is in the garden loads, writing and doing not much, so I think it would affect him more.

Of all the new build gardens I've seen, they are very often overlooked and small. Even those new build houses with field views end up getting developed on eventually. I personally couldn't live somewhere where I knew someone could see my every move in my garden.

That being said, I live in a "character" (built 1900s) with a 200ft garden and our neighbours on one side have a hot tub and the neighbours on the other side have their TV on loud with the back door open so 😛 it doesn't bother me though. I just go further down the garden and then I don't hear/see anything.
